Three Suspects Arrested in Bay Point Homicide

Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff have arrested several suspects in connection with a homicide that occurred Sunday night in Bay Point. The arrests include:

  • Melquiades Garza, 33 years old, Bay Point resident.  He was arrested and booked for murder. Bail is set at $1.5 million.
  • Miguel Alejo Rico, 26 years old, Bay Point resident. He was arrested and booked for conspiracy, being an accessory and a drug violation. Bail is set at $1,505,000.
  • Gerardo Hinojosa, 25 years old, Bay Point resident.  He was arrested and booked for conspiracy, being an accessory and receiving stolen property. Bail is set at $1,520,000.

All three are being held at the Martinez Detention Facility.

On Sunday at about 11 PM, Deputy Sheriffs were initially dispatched to a report of an “unknown problem” on the first block of Mountain View Avenue in Bay Point. Minutes later,  Sheriff’s Office dispatch was notified that there was a shooting at the location. Deputies arrived finding two shooting victims. A 25-year-old woman and a man. The woman was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is said to be in stable condition; the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner’s Division is still trying to establish his identity.

The person who committed the murder has a smaller bail amount then the other two.
