Here is a look at tonight’s City Council meetings in Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley where I’ve taken the agendas from all three cities and pulled the “interesting” items to spare you from looking over a couple hundred pages of documents.

The City of Antioch will discuss its ballot measure items while it will be interesting to see how the City of Oakley evaluates City Manager Bryan Montgomery in his annual review. Meanwhile, the City of Brentwood is looking to re-establish its reserve officer program which is a great thing.

As always, we encourage you to attend a meeting and speak up on behalf of your community.  Links to entire agenda’s have been provided where you can view the staff reports.

Antioch:

  • Salary and Benefit Decrease for Elected Officials: Discuss the reduction of council salary and benefits for elected officials to agree to a 10% reduction in their salaries and a $100 a month decrease in automobile allowances for 2013/2014.  Unfortunately, left off this agenda item was the amounts currently made in the elected positions.
  • Countywide Gun Buyback Program: Motion to authorize the expenditure of $10,000 to participate in the Countywide Gun Buyback Program. The program is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2013 with the emphasis on the collection of handguns and assault weapons. Those turning in assault weapons will receive $200 in gift cards, handguns will receive $100 and rifles and shoguns will receive $50.
  • Sales Tax Ballot Measure: Motion to approve a Nov. 5 ballot measure for a 7-year sales tax at ½ cent which is subject to an independent audit, citizen’s oversight committee and annual budget reporting—a unanimous council vote is needed.
  • Business License Tax Ballot Measure: Resolution to present voters with a Residential Landlord Business License Tax that ranges between $50 per unit to $240 per unit.

Brentwood

  • Update from Neighborhood Improvement Committee Regarding Video Surveillance: it was found this would cost $140k per intersection. The committee will hold off and re-visit in late 2013.
  • Reserve Police Officer Program: Approve and Authorize the Police Department to re-establish a Reserve Police Officer Program. In 2006, the program was disbanded due to attrition, retirements, and lack of qualified candidates.  There is now a push to re-establish the program. The goal for the Police Department is to hire ten (10) Reserve Police Officers.
