GoFundMe: Help Shane Become A Firefighter

by ECT

A message from Shane’s mother regarding their situation and reason for this gofundme request:

Hello everyone, and thank you so much for willing to help me and my son out with this personal favor. We are just looking for different social media places where we can share his story and the need for financial assistance, as our family goes through these trying times. I can’t even put into words how much this means to me, that you all even care enough to take time out of your busy schedules to talk about this. Thank you all so much!

Shane’s story:

I have been accepted into the Porterville Wildland Fire Academy, which is one of the most prestigious wildland fire academies in the nation; however, I don’t have the funds to pay for it.

The school is 3 1/2 hours away from my house, so I would need a room to rent. The academy is a 12 week academy, weekends only. I am asking for $5,500, which will cover the cost of my required books, uniforms, turnout coat, food, lodging, and gas.

The reason I need financial aid is because my parents can’t afford to pay for the school. My father has lost his job, so our health insurance will be taken out of my mom’s paycheck, not leaving enough money to pay the mortgage or bills, let alone my schooling.

The academy starts at the end of January 2015, so time is not on our side. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
