Daily Question: Should LeBron James Be Able to Trademark “Taco Tuesday”

Great debate over the use of “Taco Tuesday” as whether or not it should be a phrased used by all, or just those with a trademark. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

According to ESPN:

One of James’ companies, LBJ Trademarks, submitted the necessary paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in August. The application states that the goods and services involved with the trademark involve “advertising and marketing services provided by means of indirect methods of marketing communications, namely, social media, search engine marketing, inquiry marketing, internet marketing, mobile marketing, blogging and other forms of passive, sharable or viral communications channels.”

A restaurant chain Taco John’s — which has a corporate office in Wyoming — had a trademark on the term “Taco Tuesday” for restaurant services as far back as 1989.

  1. He can have “Fried Chicken Friday” or maybe “Watermelon Wednesday” but he can not have Taco Tuesday.
