Contra Costa County Firefighters Save Bay Point Home

by ECT

At 6:45 pm Friday evening, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a residential fire on Lisa Ann St. in Bay Point where they saved a home after limiting damage to the kitchen area.

Fire crews arrived on scene to a working residential fire, but were able to put it out from the exterior. Luckily it did not spread because due to the location of Lisa Ann St and the second closest engine being on a medical call, crews had to wait for just over 4-minutes to make entry after the second engine on scene arrived.

This was due to the policy two-in-two-out which ensures fire rescue crews are never alone when they enter a home without backup should they get into trouble or a fire begins to spread rapidly—there was also a report of an oxygen tank in the living room which added to the danger.

Station 87 in Pittsburg would have typically been the second engine on scene, however, with the station closure, fire crews had to travel a bit farther than normal. This incident also created a chain reaction of other stations having to move up to alternate stations to ensure Contra Costa was adequately covered. At one point, all engines were summoned in Antioch before the Battalion cancelled an engine to ensure Antioch had coverage.

Crews were on scene for 1 hour and 31 minutes.

Nice work CONFIRE on the save!
