On Friday at about 9:39 PM, deputy sheriffs responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Marin Avenue and Willlow Pass Road in Bay Point.
Deputies arrived at the location and found two shooting victims. The fire department and an ambulance also responded. A 40-year-old man was later pronounced deceased on scene. A 22-year-old woman was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Her wounds are not considered life-threatening. Their identities are not being released.
A crowd had apparently gathered at the location as they were celebrating the birthday of a man who was slain at the same location in 2009.
Witnesses interviewed yesterday say an unknown suspect fled after shooting into the crowd. Detectives are still trying to establish the identity of the suspect and the exact motive.
