Rick Hurd of the Contra Costa Times is reporting that a Brentwood woman competed in her first Boston Marathon today and had just completed the race and was gathering with family when two “really loud” explosions detonated Monday morning.

Megan Faulkner, a Marsh Creek Elementary School Teacher in Brentwood, was interviewed shortly after the explosion. If you recall, Faulkner who is an avid runner, participated and won the Half Marathon during the 2nd Annual Delta Harvest Run this past September–Gene Clare won the men division.

According to the article:

“It’s just very somber,” Faulkner said via phone from the race site, less than two hours after the initial explosion. “We saw a lot of people right away, and it was really calm. People are just trying to get out of the downtown area. We’re still seeing emergency vehicles making their way to the scene.”

Faulkner estimated she was about a half-mile from the site of the first two explosions, which she said shook the ground. Her family had moved away from the finish line and closer to an area near Boston Commons when the third explosion went off, she said.

“We were unsure at first exactly what happened, but then all of our friends started texting us to make sure we were OK,” she said. “The transit is closed underground, and you just have people kind of wandering around and trying to figure out where to go or what they should do.”

Another teacher, Stephan Cesar, a LUHSD sub, was also a participate in the marathon and its being reported that he is also okay.

Eight hospitals report that they are treating at least 124 people. Of those, at least 15 are in critical condition. Three have died.

Our prayers go out to those in Boston and the families forever effected by this cowardly act.

prayers go out. In looking at the link you shared, lots of runners from over the hill and around the bay. I like the short and sweet approach.
