Bay Point: Sex Offender Arrested After Being Found in 12-year-olds Bedroom

by ECT

In late November, Deputy Sheriffs responded to a call about an intruder in a house on the 100 block of Clearland Drive in Bay Point.

A parent found an unknown man inside the bedroom of his 12-year-old daughter. The parent detained the person until Deputies arrived. The man was later identified as 29-year-old Jose Simentel of Hayward. He was arrested for child molestation and other charges.

The District Attorney’s Office has formally charged Simentel with five counts of child molestation and one count of burglary.

Simentel is a registered sexual offender and is listed in the California Megan’s Law database. He is currently on supervised release from Alameda County. Simentel had befriended the 12-year-old girl and later reinitiated contact via smartphone messenger KIK.

Simentel is currently in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility. He is being held in lieu of $3.5 million bail.

Detectives believe there may be other victims. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Investigation Division at (925) 313-2743.
