The following flash flood alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday Dec. 8 at 12:54 pm where 3-5 inches of rain are expected beginning Wednesday night and spreading into Thursday.

… FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE ENTIRE SAN FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY BAY REGION.

* FROM LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT

* A VERY WET STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING SUBSTANTIAL RAINFALL TO OUR AREA BEGINNING WEDNESDAY NIGHT OVER THE NORTH BAY AND SPREADING TO THE SOUTH THROUGH THE DAY ON THURSDAY. RAIN WILL LIKELY BE HEAVY AT TIMES WHICH WILL INCREASE THE RISK FOR FLOODING.

* RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 3 TO 5 INCHES FOR NORTH BAY VALLEYS… AN INCH AND A HALF TO THREE INCHES FOR MOST URBAN AREAS FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO PENINSULA AND MONTEREY BAY REGION… AND UP TO 8 INCHES FOR THE COASTAL RANGES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

Sandbags Available

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff has announced that with expected showers coming this weekend, sandbags will be available for the unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County.  Residents must provide their own shovel and transportation.

Sand and the bags are available at:

Bay Point
Ambrose Recreation & Park Center —3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point.

West side of the parking lot next to one of the trees approximately ¾ of the way back to the playing fields. Sandbags are cached in a container on site at the sand cradle.

Oakley
Senior Center, 215 Second Street, Oakley.

Materials are located at the south end of the parking lot beside a large tree adjacent to the Office of the Sheriff Delta Station.

Pacheco
County Public Works, 2475 Waterbird Way, Pacheco.

Sandbags are cached in a container on site at the sand cradle.

Richmond
West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Hwy, Richmond.

Sandbags are cached on site in a container at the sand cradle located on the south side of the facility public parking area.

Walnut Creek
Howe Homestead, 2950 Walnut Boulevard, Walnut Creek.

Materials are located in the parking lot.
