Marsh Creek Road Shut Down After Head on Traffic Accident

At roughly 8:09 am Thursday, emergency crews responded to Marsh Creek Road about a mile west of the Sunshine Fire Station for a report of a head-on-collision which left two people injured.

Crews arriving on scene stated the road was blocked and extrication was needed with one patient suffering moderate to servery injured while another patient had minor injuries.  Crews on scene requested an air ambulance, however, neither helicopter was available. While dispatch was trying to get an out of county helicopter to respond, crews did not wait and sent the patient via ground transport once the extrication was completed. The second ambulance to the scene was coming from the Bay Point area.

As of 9:08 am, crews are still on scene. No further information about the crash was available.

By 9:24 am, the SIGALERT was cancelled.

Per CHP, they posted the following message Wednesday afternoon via social media

This morning, August 14, 2014 at 8:05 am, CHP-Contra Costa responded to a head-on traffic collision involving a driver not wearing a seatbelt. This collision occurred when the unbelted driver of a Chevy S-10 traveling westbound on Marsh Creek Road, west of Morgan Territory Road drifted over the painted double yellow lines and into the eastbound lane. The front end of the S-10 then stuck the front end of a Chevy 1500 that was traveling in the eastbound lane. Both vehicles were traveling at approximately 40 mph prior to the impact. The driver of the Chevy 1500 was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured as a result of this collision. The driver of the S-10, who was not wearing his seatbelt, sustained major head trauma due to the force of impact and was transported by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
