McNerney 1

Congressman Jerry McNerney and journalist Martin Cheek will be in Oakley tonight to join the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed to discuss their book Clean Energy Nation: Freeing America from the Tyranny of Fossil Fuels. This book encourages Americans to unite together to bring about a better future for the world.

According to Diane Burgis, executive director of the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed, the group wanted to do something relevant to earth day.

“We wanted to discuss a topic that was relevant and interesting. In talking with Jerry, he brought up his book and knowing his background with renewable energy, I asked if he wanted to host a reading and scheduling worked out,” said Burgis.

The event is for people of all ages, but they especially are looking for High School Students to attend and so they can engage the younger generation to become interested in renewable energy.

“We have to change our ways,” said Burgis.

Attendees will be able to discuss clean energy as well as get to know what Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed is.

“This is an opportunity for people interested in environmental issues, particularly clean energy, to meet other like-minded people and learn something new. Plus, it’s an opportunity for folks to meet their local congressman,” said Burgis,
