by ECT

At 2:05 pm Thursday, East Contra Costa Fire responded to a report of a vegetation fire along the railroad tracks in the 3800 block of Main Street in Oakley on Thursday.

Engine 93 arrived to locate a vegetation fire in an open field (drainage area). The fire district said this was a fire in light fuels and brush with trees and that due to the location, they had a difficult time making access to the area which resulted in fire crews having to implement hose lays.

The railroad traffic was stopped as crews had to lay 1500’ hose lay to extinguish the fire while air resources from STARR-3 and Eagle-6 helicopters performed water drops to assist ground crews with fire suppression

According to Jake Gonzalez, Battalion Chief, the fire was limited to 4 acres which included vegetation, fence posts and communication poles. All district resources were committed for more than 4-hours.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was undetermined.
