A MESSAGE FROM OAKLEY POLICE CHIEF CHRIS THORSEN ABOUT FIREWORKS

July 4th is right around the corner. As in years past, I anticipate some in our community that will choose to celebrate with fireworks. As a reminder, ALL FIREWORKS are illegal in Contra Costa County.

Each year we receive hundreds of calls regarding illegal fireworks. Our Officers respond to as many of the calls as possible. We will have extra staff on duty to respond to the additional calls. When we locate those responsible, we confiscate the fireworks and issue citations. The fine for setting off/possessing fireworks can be as much as $1,000.

This year celebrate with your friends and neighbors at the Oakley Cityhood Celebration, July 7th at the Freedom Basin Park. There will be games, food, attractions and a professional fireworks demonstration. The event begins at 6 p.m. and the fireworks launch at 9:30 p.m.

Not wrong at all…. don’t worry, someone will get hurt by illegal fireworks. Too many idiots out there that create dangerous situations and will then blame someone else for what happened.

This idiots don’t light up M-80 fireworks because of some patriotism. They do it just to make noise!
