At 11:58 pm Thursday, East Contra Costa firefighters were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire with smoke and flames showing in the 400 block of Memory Lane in Oakley.

Battalion Chief Jeff Burris was first on scene where he located two small sheds behind a home fully involved in fire. One of the sheds had been converted into living quarters.

Engine 94 arrived on scene to provide fire attack between two houses and began to look for occupants. Firefighters located the tenant hiding behind a cinder block wall. The tenant was sent to the hospital as a precaution.

By 12:15, the fire was reportedly knocked down. The fire destroyed both sheds along with a wooden retaining wall and several trees nearby were damaged.

The cause of the fire was listed as an unattended cigarette.
