Oakley: Off-Duty Medic Locates Missing Elderly Female in Brentwood

by ECT

A missing 80-year-old female out of Oakley was located inside a Brentwood gas station Sunday night after being considered missing for several hours.

An alert went out by the Oakley Police Department through the Contra Costa County Community Warning System around 10:00 pm Sunday night after Lois Hope, 80, went missing after last been seen on Seqoia Dr. in Oakley. Hope suffers from a medical condition and was considered at risk because she could easily become confused.

Contra Costa County Search and Rescue along with the Contra Costa County Sheriff and Oakley Police began to stage at Crockett Park where a dozen Oakley residents showed up to see if they can help in the search.

By about 10:30pm, more than 100 Search and Rescue volunteers had been called, but only 20 were on scene as they were still en route from locations across the county.

IMG_3881Shortly before 11:00 pm, Search and Rescue informed the crowd that the female was in the care of AMR and East Contra Costa firefighters.

An off-duty AMR medic spotted the 80-year-old missing female inside the Chevron Gas Station at Lone Tree Way and Fairview. The medic noticed the female appeared altered and immediately called in for assistance.

Upon arrival, an East Contra Costa County firefighter recognized the female from a post on this page which had shown her photograph and immediately stated Oakley Police needed to be notified.

According to a source on scene, when the medic tried to talk to the female, she couldn’t remember her name or what she was doing, which led her to call for a AMR transport and fire department.

The same source called it a “team effort” giving the medic credit for being alert in recognizing a problem because the female would have ended up in the hospital and no one would have known she was the missing female.

By 11:20 pm, Oakley Police confirmed the female at Chevron was the missing female and the search was then cancelled.

No further information was provided.
