Oakley: Meal Train Launched For Oakley Fire Station 93

by ECT

Following in the foot steps of Brentwood, Oakley resident and Councilwoman Vanessa Perry has created a meal train for East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Fire Station 93.

Perry saw that Brentwood was packed with families volunteering to cook meals for firefighters that she thought Oakley could also assist the firefighters–she even hopes Discovery Bay, Knightsen and Bethel Island will help as well.

“No one was doing it, so I decided to do it. I signed up for a couple weekends and hope others will also sign up,” says Perry. “I think our firefighters need to be shown the community supports them. With the benefit assessment not passing and our stations closing, they are stretched way thin. I want them to know people do appreciate them and all they do.”

Perry credits Christina Bell who set one up the meal train for Station 52 and for its success and hopes Oakley can mimic the gesture.

Perry went to Station 93 to discuss the idea Monday where the firefighters were receptive. Perry says they were thrilled the community wanted to help but admits they were very humbled over the gesture.

Meal train will start Saturday August 15 and will run through August. If successful, it will continue through September.

Details

Please help support our local fire station. As most of you know, ECCFPD is now down to three stations to serve 249 square miles, as the benefit assessment did not pass. We only have three firefighters on staff at each station at a given time. Our firefighters are being stretched thin and have a vast area to cover to keep us safe. Please show your appreciation of these great people by signing up to bring a nice home cooked meal. A Meal Train has already been successfully setup for the Brentwood fire station, it is now our time to step it up in Oakley and show our support for those who keep us safe. Thank you in advance, it is very much appreciated! Unfortunately we cannot leave a cooler at the front, they are concerned that someone may steal it. Please try to check on the PulsePoint app before you bring food. There is a menu item for unit status legend that will let you know what the colors mean, as far as if they are on scene for a call or not. You can also look in the garage when you are there, if all three front spots are full they are there. Please bring meals in disposable containers, or containers that do not need to be returned.

Healthy. Salads are a great side addition. Vegetarian option sometimes would be great.

Prefer no fast food, pizza or desserts. They would like to have healthier type foods please.

No mushrooms please

Outstanding!
Baby steps… now realize that the annual tax assessment was 8 cents. How many years of coverage could you have purchased with the money spent on food. YEARS!
