Oakley Mayor Offers Message to Community Regarding Freedom High School Threats

by ECT

The following message was sent out by Oakley Mayor Randy Pope Friday offering a statement regarding the recent threats at Freedom High School.

MAYOR’S MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY

The safety of our children is our highest priority. While there is no information to indicate that the social media threats at Freedom High School are a credible threat, we are not taking any chances.

All available resources of the Oakley Police Department have been dedicated to protecting our students and investigating the threats. Our police investigators have partnered with the Liberty Union High School District, Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, the California Department of Justice and the FBI to find the perpetrator(s) and bring them to justice.

The members of the Oakley City Council (Claire Alaura, Doug Hardcastle, Sue Higgins, Kevin Romick) and I have been monitoring this situation closely as it evolves. We are being briefed on developments as they occur. This is an in-depth and on-going investigation. As you can understand, details of the investigation cannot be publicized at this point, as this may harm the investigation. We want to make sure that when we apprehend the suspect(s) we can hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Anyone with information that can assist us in the investigation is asked to use the Police Department tip line at [email protected]; you can remain anonymous.

As a parent, I ask all my fellow parents to inspect their children’s electronic devices. Monitor their social media accounts closely. Digital safety is an emerging frontier and a real threat to our children’s safety. If your child is resistant, dig deeper – YOU are the parent.

I want to repeat that there is no information or indication that the social media threats at Freedom High School are credible or represent an imminent threat to our students. While this is true, we must remain vigilant for the safety of our children. Copy-cats and opportunists may attempt to capitalize on the situation. The Oakley Police Department, as well as our surrounding allied agencies, will continue to maintain both high visibility and under-cover patrols in and around our schools.

If the responsible party is reading this, I encourage you to contact us and arrange to turn yourself in before this gets any more out of control.

Again, please send any information to assist the investigation to: [email protected]

As a parent, I would rather see more police officers and firefighters on our streets protecting what really matters instead of rude militant code enforcement officers harassing the good people of Oakley.

Hahahahahahahahaha that would have to be to dumbest comment of all time! No matter what police do there will always be some but bag that hates on them.

I hope that the parents of this perpetrator are charged with the increased police presence and lack of state funds (due to students absent). Maybe these dead-beat parents will start to pay more attention to what their children are doing in general and on Social Media. America is so content to deflect responsibility. Grow up and be a parent if you have children.
