At 4:02 pm, Oakley Police responded to a report of a subject hit by a train at Main Street and E. Cypress Road.
Upon arrival, police and firefighters located an adult male victim about 100 yards from the E. Cypress Road crossings deceased. Trains were immediately stopped in all directions. Traffic on E. Cypress Road continued due to the location of the impact.
According to police, based on information they had last night, this appears to be accidental. They did not elaborate further, however, they were still investigating.
A police Chaplain was on scene for a family member who was reportedly arriving to pick him up at a nearby location.
Update:
The victim is a 52-year-old Bethel Island man who is considered legally blind. The man tripped while crossing the tracks when he became disoriented after the fall.
This is now the third incident in 2014 where a subject was struck by a train in Oakley. Other incidents in Contra Costa County include:
- On March 2, 2014, a teenage girl was struck by a train in Martinez.
- On March 5, 2014, a 24-year-old was killed on the tracks a mile east of the Vintage Parkway overpass.
- On May 17, a A pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Antioch just west of L street in Antioch
- On August 1, in Antioch, a man was struck by a train while walking the tracks across the bridge at Sixth Street and Fulton Shipyard.
