A person, reported to be a teenager, was struck and killed by a train in Martinez Sunday evening according to the Martinez Police Department.

Around 5:00 pm Sunday, dispatch received a call from female advising of a female that was possibly struck by a train on the BNSF Railroad tracks just east of Old Orchard Rd. Martinez units responded and located a white female close to the tracks that was deceased. BNSF Railroad is conducting the investigation and can be contacted at 1-800-832-5452.
Police believe she may have been hit while trying to retrieve a cell phone on the tracks.
