East Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews responded to an electrical fire on the 4100 block of Sequoia Drive in Oakley at 8:56 pm Wednesday night with the fire being out by 9:03 pm.

Crews were on scene for roughly 76-minutes in an incident caused very minor damage to the home, however, crews waited on scene for PG&E to work with other engine companies being cancelled pretty quickly. By 9:13 pm, PG&E had secured the power to prevent further damage potential.

According to the incident report, it states there may have been some growth within the home occurring with an illegal tap into electricity.

Chief Hugh Henderson shared it’s another reminder for folks to checking wiring and not to try and overload circuits.

“People have to remember that electrical such as extension cords and overloading circuits can cause fires within their houses and remember safety should always be a high priority,” said Henderson.

It is unclear if Oakley Police issued a fine at this time.

“According to the incident report, it states there may have been some growth within the home occurring with an illegal tap into electricity.”

what exactly does this mean? Did midsections grow? Did someone get taller? Or was there an illegal grow in the house?

An illegal wiretap is normally considered a listening device on a phone line. This is confusing.. I assume that they illegally tapped into the electrical wiring in order to bypass the meter?

I am very surprised this does not happen more often in East County. We have a lot of people who do no consider the consequences of their actions.

“Illegal wire tap”. Is this the politically correct statement now for breaking the law?

I think I would have used “Illegal Electrical Tap May Have Caused Residential Fire”. “Wire Tap” usually means monitoring a phone line. Also, the “grow” part was somewhat ambiguous and confusing..

However, that said, I really appreciate the work you are doing on this web site Mr. Burkholder.
