Grocery Outlet announced Thursday that the community had come together to raise $5,005.03 worth of food and cash for their July Independence from Hunger Food Drive. They beat their fundraising goal of $4,000.
Grocery Outlet says 100% of the donations were presented to Loaves and Fishes with 282 bags of food.
The store holds its food drive in the summer because food banks typically see a drop in donations during the summer months, and this is where the store can step in to meet a great need.
This was the 5th annual company-wide campaign sponsored by Grocery Outlet. Every store (most are independently owned and operated) participates and chooses a local organization to benefit. The company as a whole raised over 1.2 million dollars in food donations in its first 4 years of the campaign.
Food and cash donations were accepted through July 31st at all Grocery Outlet stores.
Grocery Outlet is located at 3110 Main Street in Oakley.
