Oakley: Firefighters Rescue Dog During Fire Response

Around 1:50 pm Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire at a senior living facility off Empire Avenue behind Luckys in Oakley.

Firefighters responded after a resident living on Chardonnay Drive reported seeing smoke from the facility behind her home. There was also a report than elderly female who went back inside the home which was filling with smoke.

Firefighters arrived on scene to light black smoke coming from inside the residence and were searching for the female . Firefighters quickly located the female and a stove top fire with flames shooting up the wall and into the microwave area. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and pulled the woman to safety.

During the response, firefighters pulled a dog from the home after it had been hiding. An elderly female was transported by AMR after she was suffering from smoke inhalation.  Oakley Police were also on scene providing crowd control.

No other units appeared damaged and no information was provided on scene.
