Oakley: Firefighters Battle Garage Fire, Resuscitate Dog

by ECT

At 4:15 am Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 700 block of Calico Way in the City of Oakley.

Firefighters arrived on scene to a two-story home with smoke coming from the eaves of the residence with the occupants outside of the home. It was reported that a dog was still inside the home in an upstairs bedroom.

Firefighters began fire attack and were able to limit the fire to the garage area with no fire extending into the home.  Firefighters then rescued the dog from the home and provided care where they were able to resuscitate the lifeless dog and give it back to the owner alert and moving around.

According to Steve Aubert, fire investigator, firefighters were able to gain access quickly and get a quick knockdown. There was a number of different causes that could have started it, but nothing was suspicious.

The cause of the fire was undetermined with  heavy damage to the garage area with smoke damage to the home.

I gave a lifeless dog mouth to snout resuscitation once….. he came around after a minute or two and began breathing on his own…..ironically, it was an Airedale.

Finally, a crier.?
Insurance covers the fire.
The pooch is irreplaceable.
Thank you to OFD .

If that dog could talk, the story he’d tell.
Maybe one of these days.

Got to wonder about people who would leave their dog behind in a burning house. Glad Firefighters could help.

Sometimes there is no choice. My dog is like a child to me but if there is a fire and it’s between my wife, or my actual children it is a no brainier who I am going to rescue first. Just because they couldn’t save the dog doesn’t mean they are bad people. Situations like this are fluid, we have no idea the actual events or how they transpired. My dog is one of the most precious things in my life but there is always a time in events where human life comes first.
