At 11:41 am Tuesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire the size of a vehicle in the area of E. Cypress Road near Summer Lake Dr. in the City of Oakley.

Upon arrival, additional units were requested as the fire grew quickly due to wind. Resources from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were dispatched as evacuations were ordered in the Summer Lake neighborhood and homes on Sandmound — in total, 30 homes were threatened at the height of the fire.

In total, nearly 50 acres burned and by 2:00 pm, the fire was 95% contained.

Both the Oakley Police Department, the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office, East Bay Regional Park District Air Support, and Contra Costa County Fire all responded to the incident.
