Oakley: Firefighter Injured After Fire Engine Rollover Crash

At 1:30 pm Tuesday, an East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Fire Engine was involved in a rollover crash that injured one firefighter.

The incident occurred at O’Hara Avenue at W Cypress Road in the City of Oakley near O’Hara Park Middle School. A medical helicopter was requested after a firefighter sustained a head trauma from the crash, however, he was ultimately transported by ground to a local hospital.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District requested County Hazmat to the scene as diesel was leaking into a storm drain.

A portion of W Cypress Road is anticipated to be shutdown for several hours and Oakley Police Department officers are on scene providing traffic control.

According to Fire Marshal Steve Aubert, at the time of the crash, the engine was responding to a vegetation fire on E Cypress Road near Bethel Island Road in the City of Oakley.  A critical incident stress management team has been activated.

6:50 pm UPDATE:

East Contra Costa Fire Protection District reporting their firefighter has been released from the hospital with some minor injuries. He is now home resting w/family.
