A carelessly discarded cigarette at 12:01 pm Friday required a 1st alarm response to a Oakley home from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and caused $50k in damages.

Upon arrival to the home located on Villa Circle, Engine 93 found a two story home with smoke coming from a garage with all occupants evacuated. When Engine 94 arrived, crews were able to go offensive through a side door to ensure the fire did not spread—crews removed the garage door. When Engine 54 arrived, that crew did a primary search of the home while Engine 88 from Antioch went to the roof for ventilation.

Crews were able to work quickly to contain the fire to the garage with light smoke damage to the interior of the house. All contents in the garage were destroyed.

The probable cause of the fire was listed as a carelessly discarded cigarette which cost an estimated loss of $50,000.

Thank goodness for 93, 94, 54 & 88… If this fire occurred after station closures, the home would be a total loss.

((rolling my eyes)) If administers knew how to work a budget instead of using the same old scare tactic, they wouldn’t have to close any stations.
