Oakley: 8-Acre Fire Believed to be Intentionally Set

At 3:50 pm Friday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of smoke coming from the 5900 block of Jersey Island Road in Oakley.

It was reported by Engine 93 who were first on scene that they located a multiple spot fires that were growing along the levee. Both fires were estimated at approximately an acre in size while it burned brush and tulle’s.

Chief Hugh Henderson said that the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s helicopter assisted with water drops to contain the fire while all District resources were committed for over four hours.

According to the District, a witness claims the fire was intentionally set, but no suspect was found or identified.

Although the fire was originally estimated to be at 15-acres, it was later determined to be approximately 8-acres in size.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause was listed as “undetermined” according to the report.
