The Oakley Police Department announced Thursday morning that a 17-year-old from Pittsburg  has been arrested and booked for attempted homicide in a August 28th Shooting in the Oakley Plaza around 4:45 pm where up to 5-shots were fired.

Since the subject is a minor, little information is being revealed, however, the shooting occurred over a verbal altercation behind La Costa. The shots apparently were fired between the buildings of Carpaccios and Yogurt Island.

No one was injured in the shooting, but one bullet was reported to have hit the former CentroMart Building where the Halloween Store is now open.

According to Oakley Police, surveillance cameras within the Oakley Plaza were very helpful in identifying a non-Oakley resident as the suspect; he was contacted, has been arrested and was booked for Attempted Homicide.

Nice to see Antioch not blamed for this incident. The teen skipped over and Antioch and brought trouble to oakley. Nice job Oakley PD in getting this person off the streets.

Who cares where the crime was committed or who’s city was to blame. The real problem is why does a 17 year old (possibly even a gang member) have a handgun? As a law abiding citizen, not only does the law require a background check, a 10 day waiting period and that the transaction be conducted via a FFL (Federal Firearms License) Dealer, but you must also have a handgun safety certificate AND BE 21 YEARS OF AGE… And we want to create MORE laws to prevent adults from possessing semi-automatic rifles? And we want to create more documentation to license the purchase and sale of ammunition to ammunition permit holders who must also be of age and pass background checks and submit fingerprints and pay a licensing fee? THIS SOLVES NOTHING. Crime occurs where there is an opportunity for a criminal to commit a crime. It does not discriminate based on race. It does not discriminate based on gender. And it definitely does not discriminate based on Location.

Do you really think criminals are going to take the “law abiding” route? Kids nowadays get guns in seconds… Laws are never going to prevent gun ownership, illegal or not. And yes… Everyone does blame Antioch! Crime is EVERYWHERE. If people chose to think their little city is not crime riddled, you’re living in La La land.

I agree Tina, I really think if young punk / thugs want to do crime like this why not put their name out their, let the world know, and try them as adults.

I’m sure he’s really not from Pittsburg either he is probably living with an aunt or cousin and is from Richmond or Oakland.

I was raised in Antioch! When I moved here in the 80’s from Pittsburg, which were the bad guys at that time, I was one of the only kids of color in my entire school! I am mixed raised by 2 white parents! I moved out of here at the turn of the century due to crime! I moved to Richmond! Richmond was way more peaceful for me than Antioch back then! You would have to put a red flag on your head to be bothered out there. Its kind of like they only bother their own kind. The ones in their own drama circles! Here in Antioch its free reign! Kids live with their parents til their 29 and smoke drugs right under their parents noses! Then they go out and rob the next door neighbor to support their habit. Its just way too assessable! Antioch willl never be the same! I recently moved back and I cant believe kids are actually killing eachother out there! The scary part is that its right next door! At least in Richmond you have a clue if your in danger! Richmond is not to blame! Human is to blame!

This is Oakley and I know we have some nice tall trees here. We need to use them and get these kinds of animals off the street or they’ll keep coming back. A sturdy branch and rope is all it takes. I hope they don’t let him off as a juvenile. He’s committing an adult act and should get the full force of the law with the maximum sentence possible. It won’t cure him but maybe his thug friends will think twice. On a second note, if all Californians were allowed to carry concealed firearms, these guys would of been spread out across front of the building and we wouldn’t have to worry about the liberal good feeling court system we have in this county. Just let good Californians carry and the felons won’t be so brave GUARANTEED!!

Every time I see a report like this I am both happy and sad. I’m very happy that the police are out there catching bad people, but I am sad at the amount of crime that is being committed in our cities’. But then I start to think of how instantaneous our information comes to us these days, and how much we like this. It doesn’t even have to be accurate. We just want it as soon as possible and as sensational as can be. It was only about 10 years ago when we would get our local news on a weekly basis, and then, only if it was BIG enough to write about. I can’t say for sure whether on not we have more crime these days per capita, but it sure feels that way because of the way it’s now delivered. Maybe i’m just getting old, but I’m not so sure that these websites are actually helpful. yes it is great to hear that a bad guy was caught, but do we have to know about it, the second it happens, and without all the facts? And what about follow up? isn’t the job of any good journalist to report the WHOLE story, not just the sensational parts. I don’t know, I’m just sounding off. I’m sure I’ll keep reading, but just wish it was more.

For years I had a carry permit issued in Pennsylvania. When I moved here, California would not honor it nor would they issue me a permit. Stuff like this makes me realize that when I am outside of my home I am out gunned. It is unreasonable to put those who are law abiding citizens at the mercy of people who have no conscience.

Oakley always had crime. Don’t act like it just started over the past 10 years.
