Delta harvest Run

The Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation is calling all runners and walkers to help support those in need.  The 3rd Annual Delta Harvest Run is Sunday, September 15th.  The event is organized by the Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation.  The event raises money for local East Contra Costa food banks, shelters and the funding of college scholarships at local high schools.

There will be a half-marathon, 10K, 5K and a 1 mile family fun run.  The route is fast and flat and will appeal to athletes of all levels, as well as is USTF course certified.

“We have a total of 450 runners and we are climbing fast,” says Wendy Shearer, Race Director and Board Member of The Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation.  According to Shearer last year there were a total of 273 runners.  “We are anticipating to be well over 500,” she added.

The run will begin at Liberty High School, located at 850 2nd Street in Brentwood.  Parking is available the Liberty High School football stadium, on Oak Street, across the street from the U.S. Post Office.  The half marathon begins at 7:00am, and the 10K and 5K begin at 7:20. The family fun run will be located in the sports stadium at Liberty High School.

“This event is all about different parts of the community working side by side,” says Shearer. Approximately 75 volunteers, including local high school students, help make this event happen.  They will wave flags along the path for runners to follow, register participants and pass out tee shirts. Local businesses have made generous donations.  Members of the Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation plan this event throughout the year. Finally, runners, walkers, and families come together to participate. “That’s the beauty of the event,” says Shearer. “It brings families and the community together.”

This is the first year there will be cash awards. Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall Female and Male winners in the Half Marathon, 10k and 5k events are as follows:
