“Justice For Boss” Flyer Targets Oakley Police Over Pit Bull Shooting

by ECT

Oakley Dog

There is a flyer that is making rounds over the last 24-hrs via social media entitled “Justice for Boss” which highlights an Oakley Police Department incident where Oakley Police shot and killed a dog who was charging at officers on Saturday night. The flyer goes into details about the incident while making many accusations against Oakley Police and their behavior as they searched for a suspect.

More troubling, the flyer is anonymous which means this may be second or third hand information–and we all know how a game of telephone works.

On Sunday,  Oakley Police Chief Bani Kollo shared with us that officers were responding to a call of a suspicious circumstance that resulted in a subject running from a stolen vehicle. Oakley Police were not able to capture the subject who was seen going into a house. In the process of searching for the subject, Oakley police had to shoot a pit bull who charged the officers and their K9. No officers were injured in the incident, however, the pit bull is deceased.

As of Tuesday night, Chief Kollo confirmed an investigation is still ongoing and is not complete so he could not share additional details about the incident.

In contrast, the flyer above states the following.

A car thief ran through a random backyard, Oakley Police pulled the family from their home at gun point, and demanded to search the property. When a man begged to put away their family dog, the police not only refused him, but they detained the man, cuffed him, and put him in the back of a police car. They kicked in the side gate, entered the yard, and as the dog came towards the officers, they shot and killed him. They kicked in a side door of the house, and kicked in another double door, causing numerous unnecessary property damages. As if all of that isn’t horrible enough, they abused and humiliated the elderly. They forced a confused 70 year old woman to sit on the curb, refusing her request to use the restroom, which resulted in her having an accident in front of everyone. How horrible is that? An innocent, random family, yanked from their home at gun point, their beloved family dog murdered in cold blood, and their family home and personal valuables were destroyed! All because an unknown car thief had possibly run through their yard. Did I mention, no one was ever caught! This is so WRONG! Oakley Police owe the Griffin Family an apology, at the very least! Let’s spread the word! Don’t let this happen to your family.

These are two completely different versions, however, along with this flyer, there is also a Facebook Page set up entitled “Justice For Boss” which has 120 “likes” at the time of this publication. The page has multiple other version of the flyer while the group is encouraging folks to contact Mayor Kevin Romick, Vice Mayor Randy Pope, and Chief Kollo.

I understand the dog owners pain and concern with the police actions, I get it, but I would encourage folks to wait for the investigation to be completed prior to passing judgement on Oakley Police.  Furthermore, if the flyer does describe the incident accurately, which I have a hard time believing to be true, there would be multiple officers either put on suspension or joining the unemployment line.

In past conversations with many officers, I can assure you no one in law enforcement ever wants to be malicious and shoot anyone–let alone a family pet.  Police have one  goal and that is to protect the public which I doubt they would not go out of their way to harm anyone intentionally which makes this flyer troubling. I get it, people are hurting over their pet while animal lovers want justice for the family, but one should not go about it by a nameless flyer and spreading misinformation about an incident before an investigation is complete.

Given the lack of names associated with the flyer, it should be dismissed at this time while Oakley Police should not get crucified until a source comes forward or the family speaks on record.

Knowing what I understand of the incident, its my belief that once an investigation is complete, it will likely prove the flyer to be stretching the facts. Having said that, lets slow down on the immediate reactions and judgements as time will ultimately tell what really occurred and if the officers acted appropriately.

Funny. On your original story, I believe Boss’ owner stated the suspect was his uncle. Hmmmm….gonna have to go look that up.

burkforoakley Aug 28, 2013 - 6:37 am

@ Barbara: We have never stated who the suspect was because its not been released. Must be another site.

angelina Aug 28, 2013 - 7:56 am

Not true..suspect was not the uncle. It was a random car thief

Elisha Aug 28, 2013 - 6:33 am

You are so one sided its not even funny!!!! Reporting the news is supposed to be unbiased! You are totally opposite!!! I would never want you in a government position!

Sarah G Aug 28, 2013 - 6:42 am

I agree with the author, lets let the report speak for itself and then come to conclusions. I doubt Oakley PD acted 100% like the flyer states.

This is a very sad topic and its a shame it happened and my prayers go out to the family and the officers invovled.

Frank S Aug 28, 2013 - 6:47 am

One sided? The author is encouraging people to wait for an investigation to be completed prior to passing judgment. Nothing wrong that. It would appear you prefer the author scold oakley pd before they information is gathered? That would be foolish and make him look stupid. I like the fact the author is casting doubt over an anonymous flyer with no name associated with it. If someone is not going to stand behind facts and put their name behind it, I would question it as well. Unlike the flyer, I appreciate the author using his name.

Barbara Aug 28, 2013 - 6:49 am

No I said the owner of Boss, not you. But I went back to those comments on your original story. It was actually his Uncle that asked police if he could put the dog away and the police told him “no.”

Tami Aug 28, 2013 - 7:00 am

One of the best pieces you have written. I hate that a dog was killed but people are rushing to judgement when the facts are not even out. This is a tough toic because you are not going to please half the people who are emotional while logical people will wait for the truth before passing judgement. I appreciate your willingness to say slow down and wait for facts even if you did insert your opinion. In this case, I say it was called for.

Robert Aug 28, 2013 - 7:06 am

Well if the police had let the man go get the dog and the suspect shot the homeowner and killed him, there would be public outrage that the police did the wrong thing by letting the man go get the dog. It is very sad the dog got killed, especially because the family was at home just minding their own business when this happened, but the police were doing their job.

SilenceDoGood Aug 28, 2013 - 7:08 am

The people behind this flyer are Pitbull people, they’ve never been known for clear, rational thought. There is a reason you see different personality types attracted to different breeds. Think about it, Pittbulls can be sweet but suddenly, irrational and violent for no real good reason seeing threats and enemies where there are none. That’s why they kill children periodically. Pitbull advocates are similar.

None Aug 28, 2013 - 11:02 am

I totally disagree with this statement.

Leah Aug 28, 2013 - 12:27 pm

I feel sorry for you Silence to even think in such a manner. It seems by what you write that you are one of those who dislike the breed. This isnt about the breed, unless he was shot solely because he was a pitbull. This is about people, your neighbors and mine and our love for animals, our family pets, and how quick some officers are to just shoot them, and not try any other means available. Stop being like so many others, blaming a breed for what some humans have done to them. This is also about “how” this happened and if it could have been prevented, and how to prevent it from happening as much as it does.

Matt Aug 28, 2013 - 7:22 am

There are so many “what ifs” in this situation that not everyone will agree. I
What if this was the only chance to catch the perp?
What if the perp had shot Oakley PD or the family?
What if the family was covering for the perp?
What if they caught the perp but the dog died?
The author is right, everyone should wait for the facts before attacking police officers. They have so much training that the general public doesn’t even understand they work like clock work. I trust Oakley PD did what they had to do given the circumstances of the case but losing a pet is heartbreaking so i feel for the family but they should be thankful they or their neighbors were not hurt. I will agree that Oakley PD should pay for the damages they caused while paying for a new dog when the family is ready for one.

Wine Dog Aug 28, 2013 - 7:39 am

I don’t think you do get it. It’s about the militarization of our local police. I’m sure the flyer isn’t right and I’m sure the “official” Oakley Police version is tainted as well. Do some research on the number of family pets shot by police. It’s epidemic. The police investigate themselves and find they did everything just hunky dory. Feh.

Susan Aug 28, 2013 - 7:51 am

How will we ever know the truth. They ever break into my yard and shoot my dog chasing a nut I will own that town

angelina Aug 28, 2013 - 8:01 am

I know the family personally, this family did nothing wrong. OPD treated them to say the least “unfairly” not only was the dog murdered but the police were very disrespectful to the elderly grandmother. The owner of the dog made a statement on Boss’ facebook page. The facebook page was set up by a family friend. This is still under investigation , the way that OPD handled this situation is disgusting!!

Pitbull & Thug H8R Aug 28, 2013 - 9:29 am

Angelina,

Please check yourself before you wreck yourself. You trying to defend this situation with illeterate rumblings isn’t helping-especially to those of us that don’t care for pit bulls or the type of people that own them.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who made the post and flyer.

Im the owner of this dog his name was boss he was the best and obedient dog. What happened was very tragic and has startled the whole family. These police were told by my uncle to let him put the dog away and they told him no, detained him and put him in the police car. Then they went into the backyard knowing there is a dog when a tenant at the house offered to put him away and ignoring that and still proceeding to kick in the side gate and shooting my dog. It was beyond unnecessary and wrong. Then going into the house guns drawn an pulling my grandmother age 70, out of her house at gun point and detaining her without telling her what was going on already after shooting my dog. Then while detaining my grandmother the police wouldnt let her use the restroom after she asked several times. The police were rude to her and when she tried to get up and go to the restroom they made her sit back down. Because she couldnt hold it anymore and they werent letting her get up she ended up having an accident. Also this article says “Oakley Police were not able to capture the subject who was seen going into a house.” he never ran into the house, he ran through the side yard. So these cops not only commit murder to our family pet after the fact of being offered the chance to put the dog inside and away from harmimg anyone, to kicking in a side gate of the house and searching the house an kicking in a double door causing numerous unnecessary property damages, an to top that off elderly abuse. These cops are trigger happy rookie cowboy police an i fear for my families and my life!! Please help get this story out these cops don’t deserve the right to be called policeman thank you for those who commented I do not want this being ignored this could happen to anybody. Lets help prevent this from happening again thanks.

Pitbull & Thug H8R, you are a moron. You know who created the site, eh? Email me then. We’ll meet up, have it out. You say you “don’t care for pit bulls or the type of people that own them.” What types of people are those? Or are you just a pathetic, ignorant, racist prick? I know a sweet little girl from a wonderful, Christian, family who owns an amazing Pit. Uneducated trolls like you are what gives this breed a bad name. Have fun being a bigot, that’ll get you REAL far in life.

Tired Reader Aug 28, 2013 - 8:20 am

Wow. Reporting sure has changed. A truly unbiased reporter would never interject statements like “It is my belief,…furthermore,…which I have a hard time believing,…etc”. His writing actually resembles the style of the unknown flyer’s author. That is not fact reporting. Try changing ‘which I have a hard time believing’ to ‘could not be confirmed’ and you might sound like a legit new organization. Also, a proof reader would be a great help to Mr. Burk. I become so distracted with all the errors in his writing that I miss the story entirely. Credibility may be gained by a few in your story but it is lost in your writing. It’s so sad in our ignorant society that ‘conjecture’ has become a $5 word.

Another sickening thing is that the family who lives a few doors down from the home where Boss was shot stated that OPD told them to put their dog away before they searched ( their dog is a lab) but when Boss’ family asked if they should put their dog away OPD said no and entered anyway…..how is Boss’ murder justified?

Karen Aug 28, 2013 - 8:40 am

it makes complete sense to me that they did not let the uncle hold the police back so he could go to put his dog away, he could have been aiding the criminal. And yes, it us terribly sad that the elderly woman had to endure all if that, but they can’t take an elderly woman into a home that is being actively search for a criminal.

BeggingForCompitentCops Aug 28, 2013 - 5:19 pm

Screw that, if I’m 70-something, and “Police” come into MY home, while my family has done NOTHING wrong, they are going to have to drag my dead body outside before I leave my home. That elderly women is sweet, patient, and brave to stand there, being tormented by the police, refused a restroom, and forced to publically humiliate herself by urinating in front of everyone. Fuck no. I would have been arrested for walking back into my house to piss, and as soon as they cuffed me and put me in their car, I would piss and shit alllll over the place and make them clean it up. Me and my friends, completely unrelated to this family, watched the whole thing go down right across the street!! They not only killed their dog, but abused the elderly. Something needs to be said and done about the direction this city is going!

You were so proud of this that you felt the need to post it twice?! You are right when you say I’m out of league, hot shot. I could never be as low as you 🙂

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 3:34 pm

LLAB.

Hahaaaa! And you were dumb enough to read it twice! Hahahahaaa!

You are just too stupid for words. Thanks for pointing it out for us..AGAIN. (No one does it better than you)

It is no wonder you have achieved the high level of mommy day care and PitBull owner. Your pappy must be proud!

What a joke!

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 4:29 pm

I knew you couldn’t help yourself! You use the word “us” a lot? You have no idea my level of education. And yes my father is very proud. You must be one very lonely moron. Keep talking so people can continue laughing at you.

Keep thinking that if it makes you feel better. Your lack of education and more importantly lack of common sense is obvious in each of your idiotic posts. You really have no clue do you?

Your textbook attempt at signing off the way you did was a grade school effort. How old are you? Six? If your older than that, you should be embarrassed. I’m embarrassed for you.

You define the word “fool”.

Time for you to stop fooling yourself because you are the joke everyone is laughing at.

Poor thing.

Julio-Antioch Aug 28, 2013 - 9:01 am

Sorry for the family pet but officers have to make split second decisions all the time and some may not turn out the way we like them. They still have to do it with the knowledge they have of the pit bull breed as a whole and the dogs actions. I support their decision.

Pitbull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 10:15 am

If you choose to own a Pitbull you are subjecting yourself to certain risks, liabilities and prejudices. It’s not rocket science.

Some people need to comprehend that we don’t live in a perfect world. I think the PD did what was required in this situation. Any different action could have ended in the loss of a human life. Not worth the risk.

In case there is any doubt, I an not in favor of Pitbull ownership whatsoever. With so many other breeds of dogs available for ownership you have to question why anyone would take on such a known liability. Then again, consider who prevalently owns these dogs and you will have your answer. The examples are endless.

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 11:28 am

WOW! Now who sounds like a dumb ass? I have a pit bull, I am a a preschool teacher who now runs an in-home daycare. My dog is very good with kids, adults, dogs and cats. As usual it is people like you that have no clue that the problem is not the dog, it is the owner! I have a lot of friends with dogs of all breeds and the dog with the most problems when we go to the parks is the chihuahua! It has been in trouble a lot. So maybe you should check yourself before you pass judgement.

“People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!”

***Pit Bull is two words also. Dumb ass!

Buy a Clue Aug 28, 2013 - 11:45 am

Wow, your insurance rider for the daycare must be astronomical.

You did inform your insurance company/bond holder about the dog, right? Especially since you suggested he/she interacts with the kids you care for.

Just curious; how many humans have been killed by Chihuahuas in the last 50 years? A ballpark number is fine.

Being a pet lover and owner myself, I’m a firm believer that your animals adopt some of the same personality you put out there in your household. Based on the anger issues on display here coupled with a higher risk breed, I’m not getting a warm and fuzzy. Do you interact with your clients like this?

By the way, Chihuahua is capitalized, since it’s a breed. But carry on with the grammar lecture.

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 12:01 pm

Insurance is not an issue with my dogs. And it is also not an issue with my clients, as everything in my paper work is signed off on. They to are dog owners. But thanks for the legal advice. As for anger issues, I have none. My comments were not even directed towards you, but since you feel the need to comment, there was no talk of dogs killing people, it was a comment on aggression. I don’t need your approval on my personality traits. I live my life just fine without opinions from stuffed shirts like you. Oh and thanks for the grammar check. You missed one…Pit bull is capitalized too. It is a breed.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 11:50 am

LLAB,

Actually you did a fine job of looking like the dumb ass. You proved my point and I thank you for that.

Bawhahahaha!!!! What a dummy! I could give a rat’s ass about how you spell PitBull. Thanks for letting me know you are grasping at straws when it comes to defending the breed.

Now remind us, how many people have chihuahuas been responsible for killing or maiming?

Hahahahahaaaaaa!

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 12:03 pm

Typical of people like you!

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 1:44 pm

LLAB,

People like me? You mean ones who represent reality? Facts? Responsibility?

News flash hotshot–you are out of your league. You should stick with your selective spelling nazi comments. They show the depth of your skill set.

Mike Aug 28, 2013 - 5:38 pm

Pitbull&ThugH8R – Your “facts” are myths and lies that ignorant people like yourself spread. Educate yourself on the breed before you post your filth. No one cares to read it.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 6:07 pm

Mike,

Good luck with your fact versus myth. It doesn’t wash. No one is buying your myths. The facts stand on their own.

Try harder.

Elisha Aug 28, 2013 - 3:23 pm

Wow. You are an ignorant SOB!!!! Families own these dogs! Many families across America!!! In the early 1900’s they were known as Americas Dog! Why don’t you take your head out of your butt!

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 4:22 pm

Thank you for posting this Elisha. He is an ignorant dumb ass!

Tia Aug 28, 2013 - 5:50 pm

Elisha and LLAB, I stand behind you too, as I am sure 99% of these people would. H8TR is obviously a horrible human being with nothing better to do than troll sites like these and try to piss people off. Our family has owned Pits almost all our lives. My little brother and sister almost drowned and the Pits we used to own alerted our mother. If it hadn’t been for them, they would have died! As we got older, we’ve had Labs, Shepherds, Rotts, even Hounds, and I’ve got to say the best were the Pits! It’s more about how they are raised! As a white, educated adult, from a respectable Christian family, I can assure you, not only “thugs” own these animals. To this day, my sister still owns one and LOVES her well behaved, very sweet Pit. My 4 year old daughter rolls around with her and she wouldn’t hurt a fly! Well, she eats flies, but you know what I mean 😉 Screw H8TR, who ever they are, they aren’t worth our time.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 5:53 pm

LLAB,
Ignorant? Now that is fricken hilarious.
You really want me to explain what PitBulls are known for?
Clue: not America’s dog.

Pull your head out. You are circling the drain.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 6:21 pm

Hear that sound? That’s the sound of PitBull owners pinging with defensiveness because of facts they want to deny. Mainly the bad reputation both owners and breed is RESPONSIBLE for.

And yet they continue to make it even worse with ridiculous defenses.

One doesn’t need to look any farther than this blog to read the many examples. Their posts reek of fear, knowing they are fighting a losing battle.

Best of luck trying to convenience yourselves of the merits of the breed and valor of owners.

Like it or not, it isn’t working for you. The more you post the more you galvanize what the rest of us already know. Try as you might you cannot change reality.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 6:00 pm

Elisha,

This isn’t the 18th century. PitBulls are known for a lot of things in our modern world. America’s dog isn’t one of them.

Still think the world is flat too?

Keep grasping for more straws. It suits you owners.

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 8:49 pm

Hey PitBull H8TR, I thought you said you were done with me? Yet you keep following my posts to other people. What, nobody else wants to play with you?! Still LMAO…with my Pit Bull laughing at you too ;p

Cpt. Sum Ting Wong Aug 28, 2013 - 9:02 am

I don’t like to name call, but I’ve had one single run in with OPD and in that 10 minute time frame it was shown what type of officers they have. They are ALL on ego/power trips and to that this is no surprise they killed a pitbull. I bet you anything when they got back to their little janky station near black bear diner they were all high fiving each other about the shooting. That’s the most excitement they are gonna get for a while, pulling people over gets boring you know!

Jeanette Aug 28, 2013 - 9:02 am

Nobody who is a fanatical person is clear or rational. That has nothing to do with the breed of dogs. Chihuahuas can be sweet and loving then go all nuts on you and bite you too. Just because they can’t do the same damage, nobody says anything about that. It’s not the breed, it’s the owners. Stop making this about pit bull bashing. And I notice you couldn’t use your real name either.

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 1:21 pm

Thank you Jeanette, That was the point I was trying to make when I was naming breeds. Being a lover of all animals and having respect for the job our police department does, this is a sad situation all the way around.

And for the record, those are my real initials. First name Linda 🙂 my friends laugh that I use my initials for everything. Unlike the not so clever people that spell “H8TR” the same people they bash online.

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 1:37 pm

LLAB,

Oh snap, you got me.

I overlooked that fact would be no match for your love of animals and lack of common sense. I mean really, comparing Chihuahuas with Pitbulls? How could I have overlooked your brilliant analogy? I should have known that debating with someone of your caliber was a compete waste of time. (We all know how deadly those shakey little Chihuahuas can be).

My bad. I wish you the best with your leashed liabilities and even better luck finding a jury of your peers when fido bites a preschooler in your in home daycare.

LLAB Aug 28, 2013 - 2:21 pm

It’s not hard to hit a nerve with people like you!!! Keep up the bashing on things you know nothing about 😉 As for your “nazi” comment above…LMAO! You don’t deserve any more of my time. I’m sure you will enjoy commenting on this and getting the last word. Right?

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 3:23 pm

LLAB,

You are so f’ing predictably stupid. You captivate all the dysfunctional behavior of someone in denial.

Let me put this to rest for you. You run a residential kiddie day care and admit that you have a PitBull on site.

This tells me you have no common sense period. It puts your liability needle buried so far in the red it isn’t even funny.

It was pointed out by someone else that no insurance company would insure you with a ten foot pole. You are in denial about that fact too, which comes as no real surprise.

That makes you irresponible on top of being an idiot – you proved my point (again) by exlemlifying the dysfuncional behavior of a typical PitBull owner.

Not only did you miss the obvious but you walked right into a chip saw. You see, my efforts were not wasted. I got you to be the best source of demonstrating your own stupidity, lack of knowledge and irresponsibility. What a rube!

Thanks for being on the show you Dumbass.

I’m done playing with you. You lose. End of story.

Damn that felt good.

Leah Aug 28, 2013 - 9:25 am

I have read, and I have commented, and I have liked the boss facebook page. I have not read anywhere on it where officers are being named. Accusations? I think it is cut and dry when it states that the dog was shot. That is a fact. I believe the point here is not the police as much as it is the procedures and policy’s that are of concern. Something needs to be figured out, and some kind of changes made so that everyone can feel as safe as possible, and not worry that this can happen to them. Someone needs to speak out, and as we all know, social media is one of the fastest ways to do so. It seems to be a site to vent, share, and get peoples opinions on the issue. I have seen of a lot of pet shootings recently and I must agree….there should be some kind of discussion on how this can change. You cant change anything if it is not discussed right? Good, bad or otherwise. Often times it takes many people to even begin the ball rolling to make changes pertaining to anything, especially laws. This is just one of those things. Also, it is freedom of speech, and it is filled with peoples opinions, for which they are entitled to either way they view the situation to be. Bottom line……did this really have to happen? Is there a way to change the policy when it comes to issues like this? Maybe. No one will know unless they try. Unfortunately, too often than not, peoples concerns are ignored. Seldom one single person words can change something of this size, it takes many people to get heard. It too often takes something like this to start the ball rolling for change. Am I right? There is no need to criticize any one PD or any one family or any one dog breed. It is a problem that needs to be addressed. At least this is my opinion on the matter.

I too have seen the way Our Police Dept handles themselves and it nothing short of arrogance. They are rude and think there bad asses. They should try to remember they couldn’t make the highway patrol or even a police dept, no there sheriffs! Nothing more than left overs! Contracted by the City of Oakley. The same city that contracts them should remind them that we are not going to accept any more of this disregard for the citizens of Oakley. They are here to serve and protect. This is not a video game or some kind of ego compition. This is real people real lives. im not surprised the officer that rides around with his K9 was on scene he needs to be put in check immediately. He has one of the worst attudides by any other officer by far! I wouldn’t want to think that’s what I have to count on to protect me as a citizen. I don’t feel very safe in the city of Oakleys choices on who they have on there payroll. They need to examine there employees and either remove them or give them a reality check in a big way. There was no excuse to shoot that DOG! They shot it because it was a pit bull. Bottom line. Do your home work people! I have & I know the city of Oakley & the Oakley PD screwed up again! They better make it right this time or they will soon have way worse to deal with.

OK THEN EXPLAIN THE PURPOSE OF DRAWING GUNS ON ME AND MY FRIENDS AT MY HOME, THEN SLAMING MY GRANDMOTHER AGAINST THE WALL SERVING A SEARCH WARRANT WHEN WE WERE “WILLING TO ALLOW THEM TO SEARCH!” I AM NOT OK WITH THIS POLICE BRUTALITY! YOU CALL IT SELF DEFENSE AND “THE JOB” I CALL IT CARELESSNESS AND NO RESPONSIBILITY. ANYMORE IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE BECOMING FEWER AND FEWER GOOD COPS. I DONT BLAME THEM FOR SOME OF THE SHIT THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH BUT DANG NOT ALL CITIZENS ARE THERE TO HURT THEM. I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHY THEY HAD TO SLAM MY GRANDMOTHER AGAINST THE WALL. “AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY NEVER SHOWED US THE WARRANT.” YES THERE IS ALWAYS TWO SIDES OF THE STORY I KNOW. BUT STILL THERE ARE SOME PROCEDURES THAT NEED TO CHANGE. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO EVEN FEEL SAFE IN MY HOME AFTER HAVING POLICE HOLDING ME AND MY FRIEND AT GUN POINT OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE AND HEARING MY GRANDMOTHER SCREAM. STILL KINDA BOTHERS ME. WE STILL GOT NO APOLOGY OR EVEN COMPENSATION FOR THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSED. COME TO FIND OUT LATER THE SO CALLED “CASE” WAS TOSSED OUT AND DISMISSED FOR THE PERSON THEY WERE LOOKING FOR. EVER SINCE THEN POLICE HAVE BEEN “HARASSING US” THATS WHAT I CALL IT AT LEAST WHEN POLICE CONSTANTLY SHOW UP TO YOUR HOUSE NOW TRYING TO INSTIGATE ISSUES.”INVESTIGATING” IS WHAT THEY CALL IT. LIL BACKGROUND INFO PEOPLE AND POLICE: OUR FAMILY IS A CHURCH GOING LOVING FAMILY, WE HAVE HELPED IN THE COMMUNITY SEVERAL TIMES AND PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT US. EXCEPT MAYBE OUR LIL PUPS =P(DOGS) -YOU KNOW BARK BARK BARK LOL

anyways i just want police to just be considerate first i know they have to do their job just hear us out first so things like this can be avoided and prevent community un-rest. i dont think oakley pd is bad i just feel they need to be more community oriented. get to know the community in a good way. because we are PEOPLE of oakley both officers, government officials, and civilians.

Why is it that this page paints all police officers as saints? that they can do no wrong. How long has the writer of this page lived in east county? Why doesnt he tell us the story and not his biased opinion?

Elisha Aug 28, 2013 - 3:32 pm

Agree!

MARCUS GRIFFIN Aug 28, 2013 - 1:42 pm

Once again i am the owner of the dog an once again the man never ran through my house he rean through the yard! An if the police would have been close enough to see that, dont you think they would have caught there man? the police will say anything to make there selfs look good in sistuations like these. sorry for an spelling errors this article really pissed me off an this guy writin these articles are u says te flyers are all different? Different people have different ways off saying things.. an MOST IMPORTANTLY THANK ALL OF YOU FOR U SUPPORT!!! Here the page where all the flyers are chexk them out for yourself!!

MARCUS GRIFFIN Aug 28, 2013 - 1:59 pm

Also think it odd he mentioned nothing about what they did to my 70 yr old grandmother. refusing to let her use the restroom while committing numerous property damages so she was forced to soil her self an to watch them bring out my dead dog in a bag still not telling her what was going on not just murder my dog but but i believe that is elderly abuse an the sad thing is it is opd an the other side of it. is this doing there job? Pertect an serve? an this is how they are serving our city ? NO MORE!!

Tia Aug 28, 2013 - 4:04 pm

It is insane how ignorant some people are. I believe Marcus Griffin, the pet owner, who was NEVER involved with the criminal! They never caught the REAL bad guy because they were too busy wrongly targeting the Griffin family, assuming they were helping the person. Whoever it was never ran IN the house, they *MIGHT* have run through the yard. The officers could have attempted a taser gun, beating with batons, sprayed mase or pepper spray, or better yet, JUST LET HIM PUT THE DOG AWAY. It was preventable! As much as people want to dance around saying “Police were just doing their job”, you all know this could have ended differently, and if it were your family and your pet, you would want policies reviewed too. Is it too much to ask!? That the city apologize for all that they have done to this family, wrongly assuming they were associated, killing their dog, abusing and humiliating their grandmother… Do you guys really believe everything the police say!? Of course they are going to try to cover their asses and make it seem like they were in the right! SMH. Let’s all just nod along like drones, better yet, why don’t some of these other people offer up their family pets to be senselessly murdered. No? Well, then you’re in no place to judge either!

I am so discouraged that our little blog that Mike started has turned in to this mess. Mike may be thrilled at the attentio0n but I doubt it.

Florida has outlawed pit bulls of any type as have other states. Many cities have outlawed them. Contra Costa County should also before another person is killed or injured.

Elisha Aug 28, 2013 - 5:25 pm

Why should the government have any more say than they already do in our lives!!!?

PitBull H8TR Aug 28, 2013 - 6:26 pm

Laws are written because some people have no common sense.

Proven by the a select few here.

Hit close to home?

Leigh Aug 28, 2013 - 8:26 pm

I have come to the conclusion that you Mr. Pitbull H8TR are a coward that hides behind his computer. After reading some of your ramblings, I have also notice that you probably use a different name for posting on other articles. Same crap coming out of your mouth, different name. Can’t hide stupid!

John Johnson Sep 2, 2013 - 1:39 pm

I fail to see how this story shows a reason to ban Pit Bulls. The dog was in the house not outside off leash. The dog was not attacking without provocation, the police charged into the house. The dog does not distinguish police from criminal ( sometimes they are one in the same), so the dog did what it was supposed to do, protect his home and his people. If this is true this dog was killed for doing exactly what it should have done. So tell me how this would lead one to say the breed should be banned.

Elisha Sep 2, 2013 - 3:37 pm

Exactly!! Julio apparently didn’t read the story! The dog didnt kill anyone let alone hurt anyone. People are so quick to jump to conclusions about this breed without even taking note that ANY dog could attack or hurt someone. A dog is an animal….and has animal traits. We bring them into our homes knowing they are not humans….so why would we think they would not act as an animal does when put in different situations.

Leigh Aug 28, 2013 - 4:15 pm

Boy, I just got on to read the news and am very surprised to read some of these comments. There are some people who are very misinformed and insulting. I think they would know who they are by going back and reading the comments. Not to name names or anything, but Mr. PitBull H8TR, you are the worst.

Tim Aug 29, 2013 - 2:03 pm

I also can’t believe some of these statements coming from the owners of these animals. I see inbreeding is not limited to the dogs but extends to the owners as well. What a scary group.

Major Props to Oakley Police.

SheSaidThat Aug 29, 2013 - 8:33 pm

Bahahahahahaha!

John Johnson Sep 2, 2013 - 5:49 pm

Props to Oakley PD for what? Did they catch the criminal or are you simply giving them props for killing a Pit Bull? You can dislike or hate the breed all you want but so far I see no evidence the dog did anything wrong. It tried to protect its home and people so why should the Oakley PD get proses for that? Then again wouldn’t expect more from a person who generalizes and criticizes people by saying they are inbred simply for owning a specific breed of dog.

Leigh Aug 28, 2013 - 4:34 pm

People need to remember this was someones pet. Just like with anything, a lost member of the family still hurts.

Mel Aug 28, 2013 - 9:06 pm

Tim Aug 29, 2013 - 2:05 pm

Is there a “dislike” page? I would “like” that.

Hyrdo Aug 29, 2013 - 12:21 pm

I’m sorry for their loss, but dogs can attack without provocation (at least the way we see it). Did the dog jump, growl or bark at the PD? I haven’t seen any evidence in either case. And Pitt Bulls can be a very dangerous breed, especially in the wrong hands. My little boy to was bit by a friend’s Pitt Bull, who claimed the couch as his. And they were around each other all the time. So I know first hand the dangers. I love Pitt Bulls really, they are a beautiful breed, but i honestly couldn’t see owning one, as i don’t have the time to discipline or patience for it.

Julio-Antioch Aug 29, 2013 - 7:55 pm

People need to understand they HAVE to HAVE a special rider on their homeowners insurance to cover a pit bull type dog. Most insurance companies I know of no longer cover these dogs at all. So a nice large umbrella policy for millions would be good.
