A recall effort to oust Antioch Unified School District Trustee Ellie Householder will not head to the ballot after the group seeking to remove her from office has abandoned its efforts. The proponents had to collect 9,913 signatures by Tuesday.
Householder took to social media on Thursday stating, “I’m still here” on her Facebook page.
According to a statement, the recall proponents stated since they missed the deadline to place her on the June Primary Ballot, they opted to discontinue their efforts to remove her against as it could have placed her the November Ballot as her term ends in November.
Here is the statement from the recall proponents:
The Recall Initiative for Ellie Householder, AUSD Scool Board Trustee has ended and will not move forward.
Please note: The Recall Initiative for Ellie Householder, Antioch City Clerk is still active and gathering signatures!!
The following quote was provided on behalf of the proponents of the Recall for Ellie Householder, AUSD School Board Trustee:
“We opted not to turn in the signatures that we collected. When we missed the deadline to be able to put the recall initiative on the June Primary ballot; we decided that it was not in the best interest of our school district to pursue a special election when Ms. Householder’s term is over in November.
Collectively, we are all pleased with the results. Our goal was always, to restore peace and collaboration for the Board of Education and we saw a noticeable shift once we began this process.
We woke residents up to the dysfunction that was occurring and we are happy with the impact our attempt had.”

According to the proponents, they said they collected more signatures to recall Householder than those who voted her into office but did not provide a number. The recall began in September of 2021 and she was officially served in October.
In the 2018 election, Householder was elected with 18.18% of the vote (8,705). In that election, Mary Rocha had 27.46% (13,148) and Clyde Lewis had 13.54% (6,481) of the vote.
Householder was being recalled for a variety of issues including: Committing Brown Act violations, not following Roberts Rules of Order, social media behavior from removing/blocking comments, and Privacy Act by posting a video online of students at Antioch High School.
Recall efforts are still under way to remove Householder as Antioch City Clerk.
