Antioch School Board Set to Discuss Removal of Board President for Second Time

by ECT

For the second time in a month, Antioch School Board Trustee Mary Rocha will attempt to discuss the removal of Ellie Householder as Antioch Unified School District Board President.

On Wednesday, under Item 12 B, the board will discuss Removal of Board President. There is no staff report or additional items, but a short description: Trustees Rocha and Hack ask that the Board renew the motion to remove Trustee Householder as Board President.

The item was originally supposed to be discussed at the Sept. 8 meeting, however, Householder pulled the item from the agenda claiming it was not discussed when creating the agenda—even though she approved the agenda.

“I am going to be pulling item 10E from our Discussions per Board Policy 9332, the Board President and Superintendent, as the secretary of the board shall work together to develop the agenda for each regulars/special meeting. Each agenda shall reflect the Districts vision and goals and the boards focus on student learning,” stated Householder.

“Last Wednesday, which I believe was September 1, we did not discuss this item and we have these processes for a reason. We need to adhere to them. Item 10E was placed on the agenda without being discussed and I am puling it for tonight,” stated Householder.

Trustee Mary Rocha replied at the meeting:

“I disagree, I sent that message to Vice President Lewis and the vice president was aware of it,” stated Rocha. “Now you don’t want to discuss it, that is up to you but you have a right to put something on the agenda and I sent it through the proper course of action. So I disagree with you trying to remove my remarks as a trustee.”

In a Public Records Request seeking a copy of the draft agenda and final agenda from that meeting, the versions show Item 10E (Removal of Board President) was on the draft agenda which was approved by Householder.

Her comments at the board meeting as to why she pulled the item did not line up with the paper trail of emails and a 40-minute WebX meeting to preview the agenda. Houeholder held the item to discuss her removal beginning on Sept. 1 and waited until the night of the meeting (Sept. 8)  to pull the agenda.

For the Wednesday, Sept. 22 meeting, both Rocha and Trustee Gary Hack are listed as the Trustees bringing the removal of Householder to the agenda.
