Update: Oakley Police Say Victim Has Died After Stabbing

by ECT

At 4:04 pm Saturday, the Oakley Police Department responded to a report of an altercation on Main Street at Empire Avenue.

Upon arrival, police discovered a stabbing had occurred. East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters and AMR also arrived on scene to provide medical care.

The injuries sustained were “significant” with multiple stab wounds but they did not offer any additional details as the subject had been transported to a local hospital. Police also did not confirm if the altercation began on a Tri Delta Transit bus and carried over onto Main Street.

According to witnesses a person who observed the incident pulled out a weapon, possibly a firearm, and held the subject at gunpoint until police arrived.

No suspect or victim descriptions were provided.

Update:
On Sunday, the Oakley Police Department confirmed that the victim of a Saturday stabbing succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital. The investigation is ongoing and our investigators plan to present the case to the District Attorney on Monday or Tuesday for charges.

According to a source, neither the victim nor the suspect were residents of Oakley.

The last murder in Oakley occurred in June 2015, however, its unclear if this will be charged as a murder or self-defense.

No further information was released, check back for updates.
