The Oakley Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved moving forward with asking voters to support a $31 million bond measure this fall.

The bond will seek funds to help build a new school in the Summer Lakes area while add classrooms and school facilities to prevent further overcrowding.

Other areas of focus include:

  • Improve student safety and access by upgrading playgrounds and walkways.
  • Bring classrooms at all schools up to current education and communication standards.
  • Expand and provide additional classroom instructional technology.
  • Improve classroom and school access for students with disabilities.
  • Enhance classrooms for performing arts, science and technology  education programs

According to the District, in 2015 they had 5,008 students—up 62 from 2014. By 2021, they anticipate an estimated 5,766 students and are in need of more room.

The District moved forward with the bond after they conducted polling between May 27 – June 7 where they polled 324 people (11,165 voters) which showed 64.5% support.

The District is seeking a Bond of $30 per $100,000 of assessed valuation

  • $90 per year for $300,000 home
  • $31 million dollar bond

Voters in Oakley will also decide in November if they want to increase public safety after the Council voted Tuesday to place a Utility Users Tax of 3.5% in support of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, the tax will be applied (if voters approve) to billing for electricity, gas, cable, water and sewer.

Another scam by the politicians in this state, get rid of all these career politicians in all districts, clean sweep would be great!

A developer building homes must also be responsible for building a school to support the future children needing these schools. No doubt the school would be bid much lower and built faster under the developer’s leadership. A bond is still the most terrible way to achieve school infrastructure.

Building a school at Summerlake community is a recipe for disaster on our small little road on East Cypress I one-way lane each way to our community. There has been many many auto accidents and fatalities on this road. There are no emergency side roads established on this old Road there is a ditch on one side and 4 feet of fence line on the other. This also doesn’t include all the hundreds of close calls on this very narrow street that supposedly will be use for children to be transported through to a new school at Summerlake. Many have experienced this road closed on East Cyprus and there is no way out . This will be a parents nightmare If someday you can not get in to this area because of a emergency or roadblock and reached your children on the other end at the new Summerlake school. Sun parents will not worry about this because they’ll be living within the vicinity and the location in the community of the school so in case of an emergency they can just walk over to the school but for most you will not be able to travel or come in to East Cypress and get your Child. Please keep this in consideration about the new school at S/l
