Oakley Says Parks Spray Fountains Will Not Operate This Summer

by ECT

The City of Oakley announced on Friday that multiple spray fountain features at it’s local parks will be closed this summer due to the continued drought conditions.

This impacts parks at Nunn-Wilson Family Park and Creekside Park, along with individual spray feature poles at Shady Oak Park and Cypress Grove Park.

Last year Governor Jerry Brown proclaimed a State of Emergency and issued an Executive Order due to the severe California drought conditions. The State Water Resources Control Board quickly followed with the adoption of expanded emergency regulations and prohibited water uses. Despite recent rains, many southern California reservoirs remain low, and the State Water Resources Control Board has extended the emergency regulations to remain in effect through October 2016.

Kevin Rohani, City Engineer/Public Works Director, said “It’s unfortunate, but much of California remains in a serious drought and the City must comply with the statewide water use restrictions to conserve water.”

What a bunch of Crap!!!
There are very few things in our city that can replace a bunch of happy kids playing around the water fountain across from city hall. Not running the fountain is not going to make an impact, it’s a self contained system. Cut back in other areas that can actually make a difference. I am sure the kids in other areas like Danville are not going to suffer this summer

Here we go again….. If So-Cal is having such a problem with the drought why don’t they add larger fee’s on all the new houses being built to fund some desalination plants. I’m tired of there stupidity being my problem.

Maybe, “name it after me” Frazier can step up and turn on the water. I’m with you Stephen, “what a bunch of crap”.

I just drove through the intersection of Main St & Cypress Ave, the sprinklers in the median on Cypress were on, and flooding the street. This is less than a day after a weekend in which we had over an inch of rain and are expecting more rain this week. I wonder what the governor would say about that Mr Rohani. I say let the kids have their water sprays and fountains this summer !! Cut water use somewhere else. Looks like our cities priorities are all wrong, pretty medians should not come before our kids!! Oh yeah, and fire the person in charge of watering.
