byron highway crash 9.11

At roughly 5:26 AM Wednesday morning, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle accident out on the Byron Highway near Burns Road which injured 5 people.

According to radio traffic, the incident involved 4-vehicles with five patients. Of the five patients, two were listed as critical, 1-major and two minor.  Radio traffic stated one victim was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Oakland while another was taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

The incident has blocked traffic in both directions after a vehicle and big rig collided causing the big rig to jackknife and block both lanes of traffic.

There was also a report of fuel is leaking at an estimated 100 gallons. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department was also called since this was on the county border.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation but it was reported that the minivan crossed the center line colliding with the semi-truck. Another vehicle then struck the semi-truck from the opposite direction.

I bet someone tried to pass a slower car… such a scary road, people don’t care if they are putting others in harms way by passing slower cars so they can save 2 minutes…

I read on another report that the driver of the minivan fell asleep.

….and the accident was today (wednesday) not Tuesday! I was stuck in the traffic back-up that was created. A 20 minute commute turned into over 2 hours.

I was stuck on Vasco because some thought it might be faster. A jackknifed semi at Dalton made it an hour ride over Vasco.

Joe blow and cme,

How hard that must have been for you. I am sure the victims of this horrific accident are very sorry their tragedy got in the way of your commute.

Idaho called. They are recalling assholes and want you back.

Really sad and scary. Be careful out there. I know I don’t want to leave my four babies Motherless. Our prayers are with all involved.
