Photos: Oakley’s National Night Out

by ECT

The City of Oakley and our police department put on a wonderful event last night highlighted with K-9 demonstrations which is always entertaining. The city joined thousands of communities nationwide for the “29th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.

The highlight by far was having Oakley K-9 demonstration and the kids being able ask questions about the dogs and unit–there was also a dog from the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue on location. Having police vehicles and the swat unit on hand was also pretty neat. Mayor Kevin Romick was on hand along with council candidate Diane Burgis to show support for our local law enforcement while the Oakley Chamber of Commerce was selling food and drinks.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in local anticrime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Activities included child fingerprinting, K-9 demos, games and jump houses. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for sale. Also on site will be representatives from CERT, the Oakley Police Department, the American Red Cross and Contra Costa Search and Rescue.

Here are a few of the pictures I shot last night.

Great photographs, I guess this shows why criminals should not run from police dogs.
