Oakley Union Elementary School District Hires New Superintendent

by ECT

The Board of Trustees of the Oakley Union Elementary School District announced the appointment of Greg Hetrick as the Superintendent of the Oakley Union Elementary School District effective July 1st.

Hetrick most recently has been the director of student services in the Brentwood Union School District since 2014. He takes over the position which Anne Allen had been serving as the interim Superintendent since the resignation of Pam Conklin, who was hired less than 10-months earlier. She will receive salary and benefits through June 30, 2017.

The following is a statement released by the board following their 5-0 vote at their regular meeting last night.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Hetrick as the Superintendent of the Oakley Union Elementary School District effective July 1st.  Our District went through an extensive process just a year ago to gather input from staff and community members detailing the qualities they would like to see in a superintendent. This input was very valuable in guiding our search for our next educational leader.  We decided to forego an extensive search process again in order to save time and money.  We felt we needed to act quickly yet thoughtfully as we are late in the school year and there are many superintendent positions open throughout the state.

We are very excited and extremely confident with our choice.  Greg Hetrick has tremendous history and credibility in our District.   Greg was an administrator in OUESD for 17 years.  For the last two years, Greg has worked at the district level in the Brentwood Union School District, focusing on the challenges of rapid growth, student services, and labor relations.

Greg knows the “Oakley Way”.  He is a collaborator and a team player.  He is connected to the community and is able to work with those resources to support our students and schools.  He is an extremely effective communicator and seeks input from those around him.  His is approachable and accessible to all employees.  He lives in our community and can see the challenges we are facing with growth.  Greg has been an integral part of the last two bond measures that helped in building new schools and modernizing our established schools.  Greg is willing to help whenever it is needed, and addresses everyone with a smile and respect.  Please join us in welcoming Greg back to our District.

BUSD Superintendent Dana Eaton called this a great hire for Oakley.

“Greg Hetrick is a universally respected educator.  He has done an outstanding job for Brentwood during the past two years,” said Eaton. “It is bittersweet for me to lose Greg as a valued employee while gaining a talented colleague.  I have no doubt that he will do a wonderful job for the students and staff in Oakley.”
