Oakley: Twelve Apply for City Council Seat, Interviews Set for Tuesday Night

The City of Oakley announced Monday afternoon that 12-applicants have applied for the City Council seat to soon be vacated by Diane Burgis. The Council will decide Tuesday evening who will replace Burgis.

Burgis, will resign January 12, 2015 and take a seat on the East Bay Regional Park District Board after being elected in November with 56.33% of the vote.

During Tuesdays City Council Meeting, candidates will interview with the City Council in a public forum where the council will ask questions. The City Council will then debate, rank and select a candidate to appoint.

The list includes Thurston Brice, Michael Dupray and Vanessa Perry, all who ran in the recent City Council election, but did not place in the top 2. Those seats were won by Randy Pope (35.62%) and Sue Higgins (25.53). Perry finished third with 14.48%.

The list of applicants also includes Dave Hansen, who finished fourth in the 2012 election with 15.49% of the vote. In that election, three seats were open.

All applicants were required to fill out an application with a deadline of Monday, December 8 at 10:00 am. Councilmembers receive a $456.75 monthly salary. They do not receive health, dental or retirement benefits.

Also on Tuesday night, the Oakley City Council will select a new mayor and vice mayor.

Maybe they will do what Antioch did and just put a “friend” in Diane Burgis seat.

ExactlyJim! Why the charade when everyone knows what they are going to do? Antioch did the same thing on Tony Tiscareno and Martha Parsons. Pay back a favor.

Yes Jim! We have Tony Tiscareno and Martha Parsons because they were “friends”. The position SHOULD go to the THIRD vote getter. Period.

It is all too much like Antioch Jim. The third highest vote getter should get the opening but that is never anyone’s “friend”. Just proves how crooked the politics continues to be.
