At 11:18 pm Sunday, a report of a residential structure fire went uncovered by East Contra Costa Fire due to lack of resources.
Aid was requested from Contra Costa County Fire out of Bay Point and Concord along with Alameda County Fire out of Livermore with the first engine on scene nearly 20-minutes after reported. Tracy fire was requested but were unable to respond.
All four East Contra Costa Fire Engines could not respond due to a large fire on Hansen Lane in Brentwood, meanwhile Chief Hugh Henderson was checking on a possible vegetation fire in Discovery Bay off Newport Lane.
Upon arrival in the 1400 block of Ashwood Drive, an Oakley Police Sergeant reported large trees on fire along with a fence threatening a home. The house did not catch fire and crews limited damage.
Chief Hugh Henderson stated Monday morning that of all the fires they responded to, this fire had the most potential and could have caught two to three homes on fire.
According to Alameda County Fire, they were dispatched to two prior calls in Brentwood and Oakley while en route before being diverted to the fire.
The fire was started from fireworks. There were no injuries reported as of midnight.

I was a paid on call for Oakley Fire for over thirty years. This never happened. Shame on this fire district for being snobs and not having a reserve force to help. Who ever is stoping the reserve option should be strung up by their toes for endagering all of us. Stupid Union should be fired.
We can’t have reserves or paid on call. They are not qualified to pull hose, mop up, help on a fire line. Only in ECCFPD there are no reserves. We are too good for that. I call BS. Reserves and poc’s would have made for an easier safer 4th for the public and firefighters. Think about it when you call Livermore begging for assistance. Sad deal for public safety here in Far East County.
