Oakley: Superintendent Issues Statement After Board Caught Making Comments About Public

by ECT

On Thursday, Oakley Union Elementary School District Superintendent Greg Hetrick issued a statement saying that students deserved better and was sorry after the board was caught making comments about the public.

UPDATE – Entire School Board has Resigned

During the meeting, which the Board thought was closed to the public, was actually open and members of the community could hear comments made by Board members that were controversial as well as the entire board caught on video openly committing a Brown Act Violation in discussing limiting public comments and how to go about it.

At one point, Board member Kim Beede stated “bitch if you are going to call me out I am going to f—k you up” which prompted laughter from the board.

The following statement was issued by Superintendent Greg Hetrick in response to comments made at the Board meeting Wednesday afternoon:

” Last night at the Oakley Union Elementary School District Regular Board Meeting there were unfortunate and truly inappropriate comments made that were heard by many.  These comments are not typical and more importantly they are not what the community should expect from our school district.  We all take pride in the Vision of the Oakley Union Elementary School District in that we are “A diverse learning community committed to educating and empowering today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders in a safe and inclusive environment.”

The comments made were not in alignment with our Vision and are definitely not what any of us stand for as leaders.  I know that we lost trust with the community.   I will not make excuses for what happened or why it happened.  I am the superintendent.  I am responsible and accountable and I am truly sorry for what took place.  I have been and continue to be committed to working together for the betterment of the Oakley Union Elementary School District students, staff and entire school community.

I know that our students deserve better from us.  I pledge to work collaboratively with stakeholders and community members to begin doing the important work that is needed to rebuild community trust in our district. ”

In response, many parents have began calling for the resignations of board members, they have started an online petition calling for the board to resign or be recalled.

Here is the video highlighting the board and what was said. ‘

In an open dialogue between Trustees Richie Masadas and Kim Beede, Masadas explained how easy it was for people to talk behind a screen but when face to face it’s a whole different ballgame.

Beede shot back asking “if they were alone” which was told they were and proceeded to state “bitch if you are going to call me out I am going to f—k you up” which prompted laughter from the board.

Trustee Lisa Brizendine chimed in explaining how the public forget that they are real people on the other side of the letters and have kids or who have a vested interest in this or what happens behind the scenes because “they want their babysitters back” — referring to teachers babysitting students.

This prompted a “right” from the other board members with Masadas talking about his brother having a delivery service for medical marijuana and clientele with their kids in school—which again, prompted laughs from the board with one board member calling it “awesome”.

Masadas continued saying “when you have your kids at home, no more Friday” and began quoting from the movie Friday “smoke dog”

At about the 7:30 minute mark, the Board realized the meeting was open to the public before cutting the video.

THEY ALL SHOULD BE FIRED INCLUDING THE SUPERINTENDENT FOR ALLOWING SUCH DIALOGUE! SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE A DISGRACE!

It shouldn’t be the superintendent apologizing. It should be the BOARD. Don’t they have the guts to do so themselves?

This is why the public can no longer tolerate or allow closed door meetings. We have placed our trust and our tax dollars into boards, courts, etc. to represent our needs, not their own. To suggest that a hearing would deviate from serving it’s constituents only if it is not made “public”; undermines what we expect from those we have hired to administrate on our behalf. An apology for egregious behaviors simply because you get caught, is disingenuous at best. It is well past time to open all hearings to the public, and to appoint public oversight to ensure that those elected or appointed remain steadfastly focused on the needs and demands of the parents and students they serve. It is appalling that this has occurred and the only apology made was because “we thought it was private”. Morality and purpose are omnipresent, regardless of whether the door is open or closed. Should the board not have spent more time creating a defined repeatable online learning experience for it’s students during COVID, rather than denigrating parents?

They all look unprofessional to match their unprofessional behavior. The superintendent says, “These comments are not typical…” however, I believe that they most certainly are typical especially since the woman named Kim Beede had no reservations in using the “F-word” and Masada speaking about his bro that smokes weed while they all get a good chuckle. They’re self-righteous and need to be knocked on their asses… because that’s what they are… asses.

A clean sweep is needed as there is no good reason to keep these nasty people on the Oakley School Board.

Markymarx Feb 18, 2021 - 4:11 pm

Hahaha they just got caught being nasty but every regular commentator on here is nasty as he’ll. Racist bigoted uneducated idiocy. They just got caught. But they ain’t wrong. None of u would have the courage u display on here in front of others. Y’all are as sorry as u accuse them of being. To quote the bible. ” don’t point out the splinter in your brothers eye when u have a log in yours”

Kim Beede should be charged with threatening violence, the rest should all be fired.

Matthew Dotson Feb 18, 2021 - 6:10 pm

MarkyMarx: Not sure why you are not personally outraged? You seem to base your response on some perceived fear of our elected officials, but ok, that’s your road to travel. As far as public comment at a board meeting: I am one of many commenters ready willing and able to articulate our concerns directly and succinctly to the board. Spare us all your snarky comments.

Racist? Bigoted? Uneducated? They ain’t wrong? I am just guessing you do not have children that have doing online school and are suffering for it. Please get a grip. Is one of them your relative by chance?

Ken Feb 18, 2021 - 7:49 pm

Folks these people are laughing at you right now. They cannot be fired!! YOU ELECTED THEM!! Just like you elected Gavin Newsom! Its up to you and your neighbors to either put constant pressure on them to resign (an unlikely result) or hold a recall election. To too it off, you are PAYING THESE PEOPLE for this circus! This is whats wrong with California. Learn the political system, and make these people answer to you! YOU are the BOSS, NOT THEM!! They do not care about hour children! They care about the power and the prestige. You heard. They dont want to deal with the public- you can phone in your issues…
Do something!!!

William Davis Feb 18, 2021 - 7:55 pm

Whether they are right or wrong it was not the place. It was a disgrace. They all should be fired. And by the markymarx how in the hell do you know who has or has not the courage whether it be on here or before the board to confront anybody.

So all these high and mighty folks that are so upset by the board doing exactly what everyone does, I have a question.
If the board all or partially resigns or are removed it will only prolong the time it will take for the kids to be back .
Be careful what you wish for.

Kim Beede.
Let’s see who fucks who.
Subhuman batch.
Sorry. That is just me.
I hope you get investigated, and your kids get shot for dealing drugs.

Robert C. Feb 19, 2021 - 9:25 am

Think It Through,

With this incompetent Board in place, there’s not going to be any near-time restart of in-person school anyway. Better to get the brooms out now and do what clearly needs to be done. And to those who say “fire them,” you don’t get it. They hold elective positions – the Board is not composed of teachers.

“A diverse learning community committed to educating and empowering today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders in a safe and inclusive environment.” —
WHAT COMMIE BS.
“Diverse” is by definition the OPPOSITE of “Inclusive”
These people, like MarkyMarx are INSANE

I am so relieved that my kids are long past the “school” indoctrination centers.
Just check out MarkyMarx comment.
He is a brainwashed troll who is more “racist” and “uneducated” than 99% of those commenting.
Bet he just “graduated” from USC and is unemployable.

FIRE ALL of THESE COMMUNISTS TEACHERS, ADMINS, POLITICIANS and POLICE.

If we do not stop this now….

Richard Paquette Feb 20, 2021 - 10:39 am

The superintendent, Greg Hetrick, who was also in the meeting, makes $260.000 a year – in such a small school district. That’s us in California!

HUGO CHAVEZ Feb 20, 2021 - 2:26 pm

But the superintendent is a god like creature..you must increase his pay..while his teachers emphasize social justice and teaching white children to hate themselves..I was successful with this when I ran Venezuela..matan los gringos
