Oakley Police Make Arrest in Connection to Series of Recent Shootings

The Oakley Police Department announced an arrest in connection to a series of shootings since early December. Although they did not identify the suspect, the suspect is being is being held on $8 million bail and has been charged with two counts of attempted homicide and two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling/vehicle with several additional enhancements.

Here is what was released Wednesday:

On Friday, December 11, 2020, Oakley Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Main St and 5th St reference the sound of gun shots. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that both an occupied vehicle and building had been struck by gunfire. Leaving numerous bullet holes in both the building and vehicle. Fortunately, there were no injuries or persons struck by the gunfire. The unknown suspect(s) had fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, Oakley Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Lassen Way and Grand Canyon Cir reference the sound of gun shots heard in the area. Upon their arrival, officers again located evidence of gunfire aimed at both an occupied residence and vehicle, both full of bullet holes. Unknown suspect(s) fled the area prior to officers arrival and there were no injuries. Oakley Police Detectives gathered and processed evidence from both shootings and were narrowing in on suspect(s) when another unprovoked shooting occurred on Thursday, January 7th, 2021. This time, an individual was struck with gunfire in the area of Empire Ave and Christy St., stemming from an incident while both the victim and suspect were in their vehicles. Evidence from this shooting confirmed that all three shootings were related and involved the same suspect(s).

Further investigation revealed that the shootings were also related to a shooting that occurred in Oakley in November of 2020, as well as a shooting in Pittsburg and Concord.

Oakley Police, with assistance from its federal partners, were able to apprehend a suspect and execute search warrants. The investigation is ongoing.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has filed two counts of attempted homicide and two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling/vehicle with several additional enhancements, raising the bail to over eight million dollars.
