Oakley Police Looking to Identify Vandalism Suspects

by ECT

The City of Oakley announced Thursday morning they are seeking the public’s help in identifying youths seen on camera vandalizing city property.

According to police, the vandalism occurred out at Shady Oak Park on Tuesday evening at around 9:45 p.m. Five kids are seen on camera, three of which vandalize the property.

oakley-vandalism-1The kid in black pants is on camera climbing the fence (not shown) to reach and alter the position of a security camera which possibly could’ve damaged them. Two of the kids in the group arrived on bikes and are both wearing shorts.

They are both caught on camera throwing the basketball at our security cameras to break them and succeeded by breaking 2 pieces off of the security cameras.

If you recognize these kids please call the Oakley Police Department at 625-8855.

In other words: turn these kids in who barely even broke anything, give them records for the rest of their lives, lessen their future job prospects, and continue the cycle of crime? Sounds silly.

On the contrary, this is exactly what the city of Oakley should be doing to prevent these kids from moving on to further criminal activity. Destroying property is a crime…period.

So we let them get away with no consequences so they grow up and commit more serious crimes? Genius. Really, bravo??

I know right? Kids these days think they can do whatever they want and get away with it. And they do. Its just sad all they way around.

Dumbest comment of the day goes to you sir! Yes, they deserve that! If it was your property you would have a different perspective. These cameras aren’t cheap. Plus if they’re youths, their records would erase when they’re 18. But they need to be punished.

I like the words, “held accountable!” Whatever that entails ~

Good response. It sounds to me like he might be one of them.. Lol

Why shouldnt they have to pay for something that thry broke that wasnt theirs? You KNOW if it was the other way around their parents would be ALL over it. So we just let them go because as you say “they barely did any damage” ?? That seems fair….. Are you one of the kids in the photos by chance?,,

Security cameras that can be reached? Might be time to rethink the security part….. That is a city government failure, not the kids. You gave them the opportunity, you can’t punish them for taking it.

Kelley Mar 24, 2016 - 1:41 pm

It IS the kids fault. Its NOT theirs. Dont touch it!! Blame it on the city for trying to protect their property?? Does your car have an alarm? A red light that blinks? Lets break into that car.. I can see it, i can reach it. Its the drivers fault for leaving it there!! Your an idiot!!

Kelley Mar 25, 2016 - 10:03 pm

Gsc…… YOUR AN IDIOT!!! If somebody comes and steals YOUR stuff, YOU deserve it!! Why? Because you went and bought it and gave them the opportunity to do it!! Again….. YOUR AN IDIOT!!! Good luck with that!!

Good Lord! What is wrong with this world is people like you. Punish these kids to the full extent they can be. This probably isn’t just the beginning of their little exploits.

Gsc, it wasn’t theirs in the first place to try to reach. Just because you have the opportunity to rob a bank every day do you do it?

I like you!!!

Give a chance for the parents to pay replacement and labor. The parents are responsible until 18. If not able to pay, then community service for parents and child. First offense comitted? No jail time.

Julio Mar 24, 2016 - 3:35 pm

In today’s world there is a real fine line about parental responsibility and./or liability. They are not always responsible until 18. Maybe an officer can explain it to us but it is very true. I have fought many a battle with the Antioch City attorney over parental responsibility and I always lost about why the city should go after someone, parent or child.

I’m only 27 and I can tell you what’s wrong with kids now a days, they don’t get their ass whipped enough

You were raised right!! VERY GOOD RESPONSE!!

Mrs. G Mar 24, 2016 - 5:01 pm

I have an idea, how about all you bleeding hearts who feel they are “just kids” and shouldn’t be punished or like to victim blame pay to replace the cameras, because us good citizens of Oakley don’t want our tax dollars to go to replacing perfectly good cameras that some punk kids took it upon themselves to break.

Kelley Mar 25, 2016 - 9:58 pm

You go Mrs. G. !! I wanna ride with you!! Lets go find them!!! 🙂

Hey Einstein, what’s a Doug nut? Sounds to me like you need a good kick in your Doug nuts.

Let’s meet up some day and I’ll teach you a little respect.

You sound like a little pussy to me. Prove me wrong.

Valerie Harrison Mar 25, 2016 - 11:41 am

OMG – take a stand and yes turn these kids in!! This will teach them a lesson and maybe do community work but keep them on the right track. This behavior is out of control !!! How would you react if these cameras were on your property and you just bought them? Thats whats wrong these days…just hold them accountable I’m not saying crucify but accountable!

Michelle Mar 25, 2016 - 11:46 am

These kids have been vandalizing the neighborhood for a while now. I know I have spent $1200 in repairs on my house from damages. They have been egging houses. Zip tying people’s homes. Oakley PD has been following leads and videos trying to find them. They might even be the ones responsible for the graffiti at Gehringer Elementary. No way this is the city’s fault!!! If their parents can’t control them… Evidently!! The law should!!
