At 10:15 am Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a house fire in the 100 block of Ruby Street in the City of Oakley.

According to Steve Aubert, PIO for ECCFPD, he said upon arrival, first arriving units observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story home. All occupants were out of the home; however, a dog was inside the home.

A short time later, the Pit Bull was located by fire crews who pulled it out of the home. Care of the lifeless dog was handed over to Oakley Police Officers who immediately provided it oxygen. The dog was then taken to a local animal hospital where it was expected to make a full recovery.

A pole and power lines were impacted according to Aubert.

The home was a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
