Oakley Out of the Darkness Walk Set for October 9

by ECT

The community is invited to participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk in the City of Oakley to help raise awareness for suicide prevention.

The Oakley Virtual Walk will take place on October 9 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Registration is free and open to the public with donations being accepted through December 31. The walk is in conjunction with the American Foundation for Suicide Preventionclick here to register or donate.

For the safety of our participants, volunteers, staff and the community, the Greater SF Bay Area chapter Board of Directors has made the decision to host the Oakley Out of the Darkness Community Walk virtually.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are particularly important events for the AFSP Greater SF Bay Area Chapter. The Walks are our largest annual fundraisers and provide significant financial support to keep our programs and services free of charge to help individuals and families affected by suicide. COVID-19 has not stopped the mental health needs of our community and we continue to provide free programs every day through Zoom and Facebook Live.

The past year has taught us that “community” is not about being in-person, but about creating a space where people feel a sense of belonging. We are hopeful that everyone who planned to attend our walks in-person will join us virtually in full force. A big thank you to everyone who has already started their team, registered and made donations. We are grateful for your support.
