Oakley: Master Bedroom Electrical Fire Causes $100k in Damages

by ECT

At 9:15 pm, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatch to a report of a residential structure fire on Jane Lane in Oakley.

This was a reported bedroom fire. Battalion 5 was first on scene and located a bedroom fire on the second floor with smoke and flames showing.

Engine’s 88 (Antioch) and Engine 93 (Oakley) began fire attack while Engine 52 (Brentwood) conducted a primary search on the second floor and determined everyone was out of the house.

During this response, a second fire was reported in Brentwood—responding crews not yet on scene were diverted to Brentwood on Caddie Ct. Engine 52 was soon released to also respond.

According to the ECCFPD, the fire caused heavy smoke and fire damage to the master bedroom and extended through a heater vent into the attic. There was also smoke damage throughout the home.

“This was an incredible save with units on scene by dedicated units,” said Battalion Chief Jeff Burris. “They not only saved this home, but they allowed other units to divert to another fire happening at the same time.”

The incident required 17-firefighters with crews on scene for 3-hours.

The probable cause of the fire was stated to be an electrical outlet which caused around $100,000 in damage.

The “Boots on the Ground” pulled off a great save in dealing with this fire quickly enough to redirect the last two responding units to the second fire in Brentwood. Of the 17 firefighters initially dispatched, 10 were able to control the situation, and 3 of those were released quickly to go to the second fire, replacing an engine initially dispatched from Downtown Clayton. Once again, luck replaces having adequate resources.

We are so lucky to have a firefighters that do their job because that’s what they get paid to do. Good job firefighters.
