Oakley Library Committee Announces Matching Grant for Measure “K” Outreach Campaign

by ECT

OAKLEY, (CA) – The New Oakley Library and Community Learning Center Committee says EveryLibrary is offering a generous matching $1,000 grant to support their fundraising outreach campaign for Oakley’s June 7th election Measure “K” ballot measure.

The funds will directly support efforts already underway by the Committee to share information about the benefits of the ballot measure and value of the proposed new downtown facility with voters.

“These matching donations will provide an excellent resource to help create and distribute educational outreach opportunities, such as lawn signs, advertising and information flyers,” said Craig Leighty, Chairman of the New Oakley Library and Community Learning Center Committee. “If 100 people can make a donation of at least $10 in the next month it will be mean their contribution is doubled thanks to the generosity of EveryLibrary’s support.”

EveryLibrary is a non-partisan, pro-library organization with an alignment toward sustaining libraries as they evolve and grow in the 21st century. EveryLibrary is a coalition partner with other organizations, associations, and non-profits that seek to support libraries through public awareness and advocacy.

John Chrastka, Executive Director of EveryLibrary, reports “We are proud to offer a matching grant of $l,OOO to support community outreach efforts by members of the New Oakley Library and Community Learning Center Committee to connect with people of Oakley and share information on what Measure “K” means to this growing City.”

This is one of the worst ideas for a tax yet. Now we have an outside group helping fund the outreach. Big fat no from me!

Anyone who stands against the preservation and evolution of libraries could/should definitely use a few books to help alleviate the typical symptoms of thickheadedness.

I need not my property taxes to get any higher, for a library I will never use. Libraries are obselete just like newspapers and technology is still evolving unfortunately it has left libraries in its rear view mirror.

Glad to see the city is working to grow community services. It’s an embarrassment to the city that our library has to leech space off of the school district. Tax dollars well spent.

Oakley NEEDS a fire department and WANTS a library. The difference is found between need and want. If the fire district doesn’t get a tax passed for the fire department it will be going away.
Think a library is more important? I’ll guess we will see in June.

This isn’t Farenheit 451, but it is the future. You will need to chose wisely, Oakley cannot afford both.

Vote yes for both. Property values will go up way more than 93 per year. Simple math.

I think Oakley can afford both. Those of us that own homes (who would be paying these taxes) saved money when we moved here. Spending an additional $400 per year or $32 per month (rounding up) on a better fire protection district and a library will definitely pay for itself in lower insurance rates & in improved home values.

People don’t know they will need a fire department until they need them. When they do they want it fast and with the right personnel. Libraries are centers that draw people from all parts of the community and give a positive healthy place for people to learn and improve themselves and their community.

We could be THAT place that has nothing and goes to Brentwood or Antioch for those services or we could be the place that people go to because we are the destination. If someone is coming here to go to the library maybe they will stop and get gas, or for a meal or do their shopping on the way home. It could very well help increase sales tax revenue along the way.

Even if you never use the library or emergency services you will benefit with lower home owners insurance and most likely a library would help improve learning which improves school performance which improves home values and attracts buyers to the community. Both are fiscally responsible and good investments in our community.

The reality is voters won’t support both. The priory should be emergency services.

I’m considering voting for the library tax. Everyone uses libraries. I’m also for a fire tax because we need better fire service. The roads are bad so I will vote for the increase sales tax coming. I know the SF Bay Conservation needs money because the water is dirty. I need to vote for that tax too. I will not forget all the broken BART cars so I could vote for that new tax to help them out. They in in a world of need for more money. We need public transportation. Oh, I almost forgot the school tax. Our children need education. I think I’m going to vote yes on all these taxes because our government is not collecting enough and needs more money. I have too much extra and they need really need it. If I missed a new tax to support just let me know. I’m going all out with all my extra earnings after taxes for the good of all. It’s just the right thing to do because they said so.
