Oakley: Driver Injured After Suspected DUI Crash on Bethel Island Road

At 9:11 pm Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle crash at Bethel Island Road just north of E Cypress Road in the City of Oakley.

While responding, it was reported that two vehicles were in a ditch with one person trapped. The driver of one vehicle was in an out of consciousness according to law enforcement on scene. Both lanes of traffic were blocked due to debris in the roadway.

By 9:18 pm, Engine 53 arrived on scene confirming the roadway was blocked with heavy damage to the vehicles. A medical helicopter was also dispatched to the call.   One person was trapped while another person was trapped underneath the second vehicle.

A medical helicopter was set to land at a nearby park near Summer Lake Park.

Patient to be transported by ground AMR.

This is believed to be a DUI related crash with both drivers transported to hospital according to Oakley Police.

Thank you for consistently being our lone reporters on local info. I live in Summer Lake and this is the 4th or 5th major accident around this intersection in just a few months. Please, dear people, be better drivers and DONT drive under the influence.

There were 5 accident today on or around there I know one was a fatality. So sad.

I agree with Kathryn’s statement, that so many fatal accidents happen on this stretch of road. What is needed to make you all drive safer? Why do people continue to drive under the influence, when we have Lyft, Uber, etc, etc. And most important, why the heck doesn’t everyone SLOW DOWN. Speed is a major factor i feel in these recent accidents, and the severity of their aftermath.
