At 5:10 am Monday, more than 1,500 homes in the City of Oakley were without power after a vehicle took out a power pole on Main Street just south of E. Cypress Road.
East Contra Costa firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle crash with rescue, however, upon arrival it was determined to be a hit and run with the vehicle fleeing the scene. The vehicle was described as a dark colored pickup truck with front end damage.
Power was knocked out between E. Cypress and Delta Road along Main St.
The incident also caused a small vegetation fire which firefighters worked quickly to extinguish using dirt since the wires were still “live” and down.
As of 5:56 am, PG&E was on scene and hoping to restore power by 7:00 am.
Update: As of 6:10 am, power was restored to all but 264 homes.
