Oakley: Grocery Outlet Hopes to Raise $4k in Cash and Food Donations

by ECT

The new Grocery Outlet in downtown Oakley has raised over $3,500 in cash and food donations month-to-date for its annual “Independence from Hunger” local food drive during the month of July.

“We expect to exceed our goal of $4,000 for the month,” says local Owner/Operator, Jessalynn Greenblatt.

100% of donations go directly to Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa and will be used to ensure the Oakley Loaves and Fishes food pantry is fully stocked as well as provide gift certificates for food so families in need can receive fresh product such as produce and dairy.

Other Grocery Outlet stores in the area and their local food bank partners:

  • Antioch Grocery Outlet – Mission Possible
  • Concord Grocery Outlet – Contra Costa Food Bank
  • Pleasant Hill Grocery Outlet – St. Vincent de Paul and Christ the King Church

Food banks typically see a drop in donations during the summer months, and this is where we step in to meet a great need. This is the 5th annual company-wide campaign sponsored by Grocery Outlet. Every store (most are independently owned and operated) participates and chooses a local organization to benefit. The company as a whole raised over 1.2 million dollars in food donations in its first 4 years of the campaign.

Food and cash donations will be accepted through July 31st at all Grocery Outlet stores.

David and Jessalynn Greenblatt, Independent Owners/Operators of the Oakley store would like to thank the local community for their generous donations. “We are so pleased with the support our customers have shown for this campaign,” said Jessalynn. “As a new store we didn’t know what to expect, but customer after customer has not hesitated to say ‘Yes’ to donating to meet the need in our community. We are so proud to operate our store here.”
